LG Electronics is preparing to make its devices work with the Amazon Echo (smart speakers) as part of an ongoing process of expansion in artificial intelligence.

The global electronics maker said on Sunday it plans to showcase its equipment, which works with Amazon Alexa at Internationale Funkausstellung in Berlin, which will be launched next week.

LG said that while Amazon Echo does not respond to the Korean voice command at the moment, research is under way to set up this compatible system late this year or early next year, Yonhap News Agency reported.

LG products that will work with Alexa as a personal assistant are used in refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners, air purifiers, and cleaning robots. The global appliance manufacturer has aligned its products with various smart audio devices over the past few years with an open platform and open partnership arrangements.

In a previous report, South Korea's LG Electronics said it would invest heavily in robots and seek to capitalize on the development of artificial intelligence that could eventually lead to sophisticated machines that perform everyday human tasks. LG said in a statement that its hardware department is preparing to enter the robotics industry to develop products that will work closely with household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioning units.

Countries around the world are investing heavily in robotics in the hope of developing a new industry or facing socio-economic problems such as low reproduction rates or aging populations by introducing machines that can serve humans as cooks, shepherds or workers.
