**Good day to you all here in the inkwell community**

**I remain this humble soul who is always ready to appreciate my existence on the surface, once we realize that staying alive is never by our power or might then we know that all we have to do in life is to thank God for his mercy and grace over us.**

*Life is so friendly and at the same time unfriendly too. It depends on the side each and everyone is facing at the moment. We all know life wouldn’t be so easy. Right from the beginning of our days, we had to cry 😭 before coming out from the womb down this world of ours. Everyone around us was so happy to have us with them. 

The mystery remains the same because when it’s time to leave the world we get to realize that instead of them being happy that we are leaving the world, they would be the ones crying.*

## Why are they crying instead of celebrating?  

This is because of the impact we must have left and the relationship we have built. People were happy about us coming to life because who knows what the newly born would bring to life? Everyone would love to make friends with the newborn and celebrate. So the newborn would come to life and make friends out of their immediate family, their surroundings, and even with animals and other things on earth. 

## Who is your friend?

We all have that set of people we call our friends. I would define friends to be those who are always there in time of need, those who are ready to be with you till the end without faking who they are. 

At times those we call our friends sometimes turn out to be our sworn enemies with time. And there are times when those we take to be our enemies become the best friends ever.

# <center>How I got betrayed by a friend.</center>

When I was a little younger, probably at age 6 or 7 years then. Little do I know about life and there was just a little bit of experience due to our way of upbringing. We are not that exposed to societal pressures. We are always indoors. After school, we are either at home watching movies or getting our assignments done. 

This became a part of us. We don’t have many friends in the community except for those we met at school and they are our classmates. 

I am not the type that makes a lot of friends as such and that is what became a part of me to date. I prefer having one or two friends I can be proud of, rather than having countless of them, because none of them could be of help to me. 

I hung out with two close friends in school then. One was called Lanre and the other one was called Kabir. I can never forget their names 😂. But I got closer to Lanre than any other person in my class. I most times tell my stories to him and he would do the same thing too. 

There was a day Lanre came to school with a huge amount of money. Before he could show it to anyone I was the first person he showed it to. I was surprised and challenged him on where he got such a huge amount from. The money was two notes of 500 naira. The highest currency in our country. I think he brought more of them, but he just showed me two. 

After challenging him as a friend. I asked him where he got it over and over. He tried not to make me get an answer but I told him I will not be his friend anymore if he can’t tell me. He reluctantly gave me an answer saying “My dad just arrived from his trip abroad. So he gave me some money to enjoy with my friends”. 

I didn’t believe him at first, but he wanted to take it to a fight with me, so I just had to let him be. He gave me some part of the money. 100 Naira back then. After he bought a lot of things for us. I held the money with me and waited for my brother to be done with his classes. 

My brother met me and saw the money with me. He challenged me about how I came about getting such an amount. I told him it was from a friend of mine. My brother told me to throw it away but insisted and held on to it till I got home. 

To cut the long story short. We met dad on our way home. He saw me with the money and asked how I got it with me. I told him about my friend's dad who just came from London. He didn’t even let me land my words before he started beating me. I received one of the worst beatings of my life that very day. 

When he was satisfied with me, he asked me to put on my uniform as we headed for my friend’s home. Luckily we met with his dad outside their compound and greeted him. He was surprised 😮. Then my dad asked me to narrate the same story I told him which I did. Lanre's dad called him out immediately in our presence and started to deal with him. His dad said; The money went missing at home a few days ago. But Lanre insisted he wasn’t the one who stole it. 

That was when I knew my friend was a thief who just lied to me and made me suffer with him. His dad reported him to the school authorities and was dealt with in front of the student assembly. He became a scapegoat to all and since then I never got closer to Lanre again. I learnt my lesson.
