We are living it tough times with the Covid pandemic and it's probably worst for the young generation. Instead of spending time with their friends and enjoying themselves, they are limited in many ways. Today, I would like to tell you a little story with a happy ending as a proof that even in these conditions, nice stories can still be written :-)

My daughter is practicing Karate since she was 5 years old. What started as a trial of a new activity, became little by little her passion. The older she got, the more she trained. Today she trains so much that she has a special school schedule to allow a maximum amount of training hours. In average she spends 10 to 13 hours per week in her Dojo. 

### Training in difficult conditions
The pandemic was difficult for her. Because of the measures imposed by the government, her dojo had to close several times and also most of the competitions were canceled. In spite of that she continued to train on her own and we often went running together in the forest, when nothing else was possible. Fortunately, we were always allowed to go out and do something as long as we didn't have contact with other people. 

This year the pandemic situation in my country was much better. The dojo was open normally and she could train quite well. There were also the national championships that were scheduled for the end of november. This was a big motivation and she was training harder than ever. 

### About 11 days before the competition the big blow came...

I remember waiting for her after the training. There in the car I received an e-mail from her school. Her neighbor in class was tested positive for Covid. She had to go into quarantine immediately. When I announced her this, her world collapsed...

She had been complaining of headaches already before and it came out that she had covid as well. So here quarantine was transformed into isolation. She had to stay in her room all day long. Fortunately, her symptoms were mild. She still didn't give up on her dream and she continued to train every day in her small room in spite of covid. Quite soon her symptoms disappeared and finally one day before the competition the authorities allowed her to leave the isolation. 

In Karate there are two competitions. There is Kata which is a kind of fight without opponent and there is Kumite where you do the real fighting. She took part in both competitions. 

First there was Kata and she performed quite well but it was visible that she lacked power, having lost close to 3 kilos during covid. She managed to get the 9th rank in the national championships all the same.

After Kata there was Kumite. At the moment this is the discipline that she feels strongest. She couldn't make a single fight for 10 days and we didn't know whether she would be up to it. Because of the covid situation, there were very few people taking part in her category and she had only two fights to do. She won them both and won the national title in her category.

Because of covid, I hadn't been able to witness a competition for more than two years and there sitting on the benches I was overwhelmed by emotions. Being happy for her that her dream had come true and of course very proud :-)
