Starting as a minnow is really not easy on steemit. Without steem power it is difficult to get anywhere. There are however things that you can do that don't cost anything to progress on this platform.

## Get free SBD on the daily faucet by
@sydesjokes runs a daily faucet where everybody can take part. You only have to upvote the post and write a comment. It can be a joke or just anything that goes through your mind. The amount that is collected with the post, combined with the input of some sponsors, is then divided and given to the participants. You get the payout the following day. You can get between 0.01 and 0.03 sbd daily. For minnows, a good start to make some coins.

## Get a free upvote from minnowsupport

To get a free upvote from minnowsupport bot every 48 hours, you have to go through the following steps:
- You have to join their [discord channel](https://discord.gg/3nCj7hX)
- Go to the channel #registration and write „$register @yoursteemitname“
- You will be asked to send 0.001 STEEM to the user msp-reg. In the memo, you will have to post a code that is given to you in the chat.
- Go to steemit. Go to wallet and select transfer. (see image on the right)

- On discord you will get a confirmation that you are now registered
- You will get the steem that you sent to minnowsupport back to your wallet

 You can now let the minnowsupport bot upvote your post. To do that you can go to the channel #upvote on discord and write $upvote <code>http://steemit.com/url_of_your_post/</code>. Before you do so, be careful to read the [follwing post](https://steemit.com/minnowsupportproject/@discordiant/msp-blacklist-reasons-why-can-i-note-use-the-upvote-bots) that will help you not getting put on the black list!

### Further you have to be aware of following rules:
You can upvote once every 48 hours. Do not try to get an upvote before.
You have to wait till your post is at least 20 minutes old before you ask for an upvote
Only posts that are younger than 2 days can get upvotes

## Promote your post on steemit chat
On the [steem chat](https://steemit.chat/home) there is a channel called #postpromotion where you can paste the url of your steemit post once every two hours. Maybe you will get some visits like that. There are also a lot of discord channels that feature a #postpromote that you can use to present your post to the communities.

## Reestem service (donation based)
You can use the service called resteemit to reestem your posts. Go to [resteemit](https://www.resteemit.com) and follow the instructions. At the end of the process you are asked for a donnation and it is probably a good idea to give one. Your post will be resteemed by @resteemable and you will also get an upvote.
