When Making Fun of Someone's Cosplaying Hobby Goes Wrong
This drama on the local cosplaying community popped up around 4-5 days ago.

TL:DR:
> React Content Creator Tito Mars commented on a video from a group of young cosplayers doing their Tokyo Revengers cosplay. While a follow up video from Tito Mars mentioned that they didn't insult the group's hobby and only shared an opinion about it, this wasn't received well by the local cosplaying community.

I wasn't able to see the full video because it got set to private when flak started to follow around 5 hours after it was published. But thanks to internet react videos from other creators, I get to see the gist of the controversy. Below is the video talking about the recent drama but no English translation yet.

Hearing it from the local language and tone used, it's one of those slow burn react videos commenting on a hobby they have no interest. On the first part of the video, they specifically mentioned they don't watch anime. That's already a tell tale sign that they're going in with an opinion without the getting familiar with the culture they're commenting on.

From a place where we're trying to draw out some humor over the effort of these kids doing their budget cosplay, I get Tito Mars' take on it. But these takes are best left as intrusive thoughts unspoken. Even if the video wasn't ill intended to be an insult, it's still presented in a tone where you're going to upset some folks passionate about the hobby and there's no merit to be gained here.

I get occasional cringe watching some of these kids do their cosplay but it's not all that bad. It's a phase, a part of life where kids will have their hobbies and get involved with other people of similar interests then create that space where they can find some sense of belonging to a group they're in. Some of the best cosplayers come from these groups.

Takes me back to the days when I was just happy playing Yu-Gi-Oh cards with some friends in class then others just try to shit on our past time because they don't know what we're into. It's a tough world and it's even tougher when people that won't mind their own business. Just like how I lost my interest in playing those cards, so did some of the kids expressing the lost confidence in cosplaying after this blew up. It's best to leave people enjoying their own hobbies if they ain't hurting anyone.

Apparently, making react videos is their business so occasional dramas for publicity is expected.

I respect the amount of work cosplayers go through. Some cosplays require time to sew the right clothing, learn how to apply the make up, procure the equipment for photoshoots, book the studio for photoshoots, logistics, working out to suit the character they are cosplaying into, and having the mental fortitude to walk about in the suit with bystanders looking which some wouldn't probably get it. It's not easy putting on a costume and keeping the act.

These are just people having fun in their own space doing stuff you're not into. The thing that grinds my gears with dramas like these is how much tourist feel like they did nothing wrong after sharing their take. Once you get an opinion out into the world, you're supposed to take accountability for it and getting flak for sharing an opinion is part of the deal. I'm not calling for a witch hunt, granted some of the harsh backlash I see are sometimes below the belt that I already feel sorry for both parties.

I don't really comment on things I don't know or at least get some more exposure before I can confidently share about an opinion about something. I thought this was common knowledge until people figured out they can monetize their hot takes online. Well, this take of mine can get some votes so there's that too.
