I needed a headset with a microphone to make quick videos on the go. The type of videos I'm talking about are the screen share tutorial types.  I needed the old school audio jack style one that I could use with my MacBook but, since I already had a high end one, I wanted something cheap.

There's one sold at Asda that I'd been eyeing for quite a while. I finally decided to pick it up and was kind of excited to make my first video with it. I was utterly disappointed, however, when I played back the recording to find the most ghastly buzzing noise in the background.  It sounded like electromagnetic interference because, as one would expect, I don't think this cheap headset is shielded.

I have noise reduction tools in my editing software but even those tools aren't good enough to totally remove or even adequately reduce the noise base level of this device.  It was so bad that the only way to mask it was to overlay music unto it after noise removal.  

I had to take it back for something else. Alas! I couldn't find the receipt and Asda refused to take it back without one.  So now I'm stuck with a terrible product. Cheap, yes, but terrible nonetheless.  In fairness, the issue may be with my computer, even though no other headset or microphone has exhibited this issue with my mac.  It may be the interface. Maybe the audio jack is damaged. Perhaps I just got a back one that slipped through quality control.  These things are mass-produced so that does happen.

Now I have to either find the receipt, which is unlikely since I think I threw it in the bin, or I somehow find a way to improve the noise issue.  Maybe I'll try an adaptor or something.  Meanwhile I've put a video up on YouTube about it. With any luck, I'll get my money back that way 😂
