0.000 HBDMarch Garden Journal: Updates on my Crops, Introduction of some of my Fruit Bearing Trees and a Feathery Surprise!
Greetings! It has been two weeks since I last post about my gardening and today I am excited to show you guys some of the current updates on my vegetable garden. With that being said this blog will be mostly about the current status of my crops, also I will be introducing/showing for the first time some of my fruit-bearing trees and a feathery surprise for everyone! By the way, in a matter of days, summer is arriving in our country. Although the month of March is the beginning of summer in our country night time is still a bit cold and it is not until late March or halfway through the month of March when we are going to feel the scorching hot weather of summer. I am excited about the coming summer because I have so many plans for my vegetable garden like raising the raised beds that I used in planting my additional squash crops. I am also planning to build a little wood pathway in my vegetable garden and I am also going to make the drainage canal a little bit dipper so that it can contain more water coming from our rice farm and from a neighboring rice farm. A plan of relocation of my green pepper and red pepper crops is also in place. So, without further ado, here are some of the updates on my vegetable garden... # Update on the Bell Peppers that I planted on pots For those who are able to follow my blog, I tried to plant bell pepper on pots and I also successfully transplanted them in other pots. Today, they are now flowering and likely to give some produce. One thing I learned about planting bell pepper on a pot is you need to support them with fertilizer because of the limited nutrients that they are getting from the soil in the pot. Compared to the bell peppers that I planted inside my vegetable garden which are now bearing some fruit all of the bell peppers that I planted in pots are only beginning to flower. The bell peppers on the pot and inside my vegetable garden are planted simultaneously. *A flowering bell pepper that I transplanted on a pot* *Here's a full image of the bell pepper that I transplanted on a pot* *One of the bell pepper that I planted in a pot is starting to produce a new stem* # Update on the Tomatoes that I planted on pots Aside from the bell peppers that I planted on pots I also tried to plant tomatoes in a pot. As of now, one of the tomatoes that I planted on the pot is already growing a fruit. But, just like the bell pepper that I planted on pots. The tomatoes that I planted on pots are also late in bearing fruit as compared to the tomatoes that I planted inside my garden (which are now bearing some fruit a half the size of a golf ball). The tomatoes on the pot and the tomatoes inside my vegetable garden are planted simultaneously. *A tomato that I planted on a pot is starting to grow a small fruit* *A full image of one of the tomatoes that I planted on a pot* # Update on the Bell Peppers that I planted inside my vegetable garden And here's the crown jewel of my bell peppers, these bell peppers are the ones that are planted simultaneously with the bell peppers on the pot that I mentioned earlier. As you can see in the photo below there are now bearing some medium bell pepper fruit as compared to the one in the pot (which are only beginning to flower). *These are the bell pepper inside my garden* *A full image of all the bell peppers inside my vegetable garden* *Here's another view of the bell peppers inside my vegetable garden* # Update on the Bell Peppers that I planted beside the outside wall of my vegetable garden Also, and again, if you are able to follow my gardening, there are also bell peppers that I planted beside the outside wall of my vegetable garden. These bell peppers are simultaneously planted with those on pots and the ones that are inside my vegetable garden. I think these bell pepper are now starting to bear fruit since they seemed to have on their late phase of flowering. *A bell pepper beside the outside wall of my vegetable garden* *A bell pepper beside the outside wall of my vegetable garden* *A full image of one of the bell peppers that I planted beside the outside wall of my garden* *Here's a full view of all the bell peppers that I planted beside the outside wall of my vegetable garden* # Introducing my small Guava Tree (it excites me that it is finally bearing fruits) And introducing some of my fruits bearing trees inside my vegetable garden... My lone guava inside my vegetable garden is now finally bearing fruits for the first time(which makes me very happy). This guava is a little bit taller than me. *The biggest fruit on my lone guava tree* *Here's a full image of my lone guava tree* # Introducing my young Papaya trees (4 young papaya trees that are located in my vegetable garden) And for the first time, introduced my little Papaya trees inside my vegetable garden. I have been waiting since July last year when these Papayas are going to bear fruit. And two days ago I was surprised that two of them are now growing some small fruits. I am actually do not mind all of them because they are always kept on flowering for many months but no fruit is coming out. But two days ago, I am surprised that two of them are now bearing some small fruits, I am still waiting for the other two to bear some fruit. *This papaya has the biggest fruit of all the four papayas inside my vegetable garden* *And here's another one with a lone fruit* *Here's the third one which still kept of flowering but no fruit is coming out* *And here's another one that also has many flowers but no fruit is coming out* # A glimpse at the second batch of Eggplants that I planted Before I posted my first blog on Hive Garden I already have eggplant crops that are already producing fruits. Now that I already planted the second batch of eggplants in my garden some of my remaining old eggplant crops are still producing fruits. I am happy that I have replacements coming to those old eggplants. *Here is one of the second batches of eggplants that I planted recently* # A glimpse of my Mangos In my vegetable garden, there are five mango trees, and three of them are already bearing fruits (they are located on the east and north perimeter of my garden). One of them has lots of fruits approaching maturity. I am glad because I could easily reach a lot of them by hand. *Some of the mangoes that I easily reached by hand* *Another look of the mangoes that I could easily reach by hand* # My Calamansi (Citrus) is finally bearing fruits for the second time In my garden, there is a lone Calamansi (Philippine Lime). I have been waiting for it to bear fruit (for the second time) and today, while I am having a walk in my garden I inspected my Calamansi crop closely and to my surprise, I saw a lone fruit and it makes me very happy. I thought I can never make my Calamansi bear fruit again. *A close look at the tiny fruit of my Calamansi* *Another view of the lone fruit of my Calamansi* # A surviving Squash In my short time in vegetable gardening I already experienced some setbacks, first is when my first string beans were attacked by pests and they all died. Another setback that I experienced is on my squash crops. It was actually my fault because I did not make the raised bed high enough and excess water from our rice farm and nearby rice farm reached the raised bed where I planted my squash. But there's a surviving squash on the highest section of my vegetable garden and is now flowering, I hope it will bear fruit. *The only surviving squash in my vegetable garden* # My second batch of Tomatoes are finally bearing fruits If there are setbacks, there are also success stories in my young gardening career. And one of the success stories in my gardening is about the first batch of tomatoes that I planted. I harvested plenty of fruits on them with almost no investment at all. The only investment in my first batch of tomatoes is my effort in watering and taking care of them. And now, the second batch of tomatoes that I planted and already bearing some fruits. *One of my new tomato crops that are now bearing some fruits* # My old Eggplant crops are still giving produce Did I mention earlier about my old eggplant crops? And yes, they are still bearing fruits but some are already died out. *One of my eggplant crops that is still producing* # My Black Seeded String Beans are all withering Another vegetable crop that I harvested a lot is my Black Seeded String Beans where I also have little to no investment, only my effort in watering and taking care of them but they also died out when they reached their end of life. *One of my black seeded string beans that are already withering* # One of my Bananas has finally grown some fruits Here's another fruit-bearing tree that I would like to introduce to the community my bananas. My banana crops were actually planted long before I formally started vegetable gardening last July of 2021. Last July there is a lone banana with fruits but they eventually rot. And since then I have been waiting for them to bear fruit. Last month two of them did bear some fruit but one of them died out the one in the photo is the only one with fruit. *Alone banana with fruits in my vegetable garden* # My First Attempt of Making Banana Peel Liquid Fertilizer While I am waiting for the fruit of my crops in my vegetable garden to grow I tried to make a banana peel liquid fertilizer (which is so easy to make). In making a banana peel liquid fertilizer you only need some banana peel, a container, and water. Here's how I made it... I first get some banana peels that are in good condition Then I sliced them into a strip I prepared the container Then I put some banana peel in the container (half of the container) Then I add water And finally, I covered it with a breathable cover (such as cloth) # Introducing my Tomatoes outside (outside/front of our house) One thing that I can't help in doing is germinating lots of seeds whenever I have the chance. And one of the seeds that I always love to germinate (a lot of them) are tomatoes. I actually germinated lots of tomato seeds for my second batch of tomatoes and I don't want to away the remaining seedling so I made a decision to plant some of the seedling outside of our house (right in front of our drive-way). All of them grew are some of them are already bearing fruits and the rest is at the end of their flowering. *Here's one of the tomato plants outside our house that is now bearing some fruits* *Here's one of the tomato plants outside our house that is now bearing some fruits* *Here's one of the tomato plants outside our house that is now bearing some fruits* *Here's a full view of my tomato crops outside our house (there are actually nine tomato plans)* *Here's one of the tomatoes outside that is already flowering* *Here's one of the tomatoes outside that is already flowering* *That's me pruning some weeds around my tomato crops outside our house* *That's me pruning some weeds around my tomato crops outside our house* # A Feathery Surprise And finally to the surprise of this blog, I actually have multiple lemongrasses in my vegetable garden and one of them is home to a local bird that is always found in my town. The bird builds a nest on one of my lemongrasses and she now has one egg. It is not every day that we get to see birds build their nests in a place frequently visited by humans, especially in a vegetable garden. I am excited to share this because it is a rare moment and since I love birds and birt's nest I took some photos of it and a short video to boot. Here are the photos and a short video of the nest... https://youtu.be/r5IZ6m25QeI By the way, I am excited to see @discoveringarni garden again. And to my friend @simaroy, I am curious if you have a garden, if yes, I am courteously inviting you to join this challenge. <hr> <center>I am a Computer Engineer, blogger, farmer, father, and husband.
