0.000 HBDCity park hunting for mushrooms on the ground
November is certainly a good month for mushroom hunting. And one doesn't have to go very far to find plenty. I recently went to get my daily steps to a nearby park in the city I live in, phone in hand and eyes on the ground looking around. I found *a lot* of mushrooms in a relatively small area! Here are some photos of the ones growing on soil. Most of them grow near trees, which should be a good hint that the species could be establishing a symbiotic relationship with the tree ๐. For identification, I used the Android app 'Mushroom Identify', which is subscription based, but has a 7-day free trial. Pretty cool to be able to identify the species based on photos only ๐.
## Common laccaria https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laccaria_laccata Probably *Laccaria laccata*. It is a symbiotic species, forming mycorrhizae with tree roots. ---
## Aniseed funnel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clitocybe_odora Probably *Clitocybe odora*. Can smell like anise. ---
## Honey fungus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armillaria_mellea Probably *Armillaria mellea*. Parasitic fungus. Its nefarious effects can be seen on the host's discolored leaves and dying branches. ---
## Inky mushroom https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agaricus_moelleri Probably *Agaricus moelleri*. It feeds on decaying organic matter. The app identified all these as the same species. ---
## Brick Cap https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypholoma_lateritium Probably *Hypholoma lateritium*. Edible but easily mistaken for a couple of poisonous species. ---
## Camembert brittlegill https://www.mushroomexpert.com/russula_amoenolens.html App identified as *Russula amoenolens*, but I think it resembles better *[Russula pectinatoides](https://www.mushroomexpert.com/russula_pectinatoides.html)*. ---
## Weeping widow https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacrymaria_lacrymabunda App identified as *Lacrymaria lacrymabunda*. ---
## Deadly dapperling https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lepiota_brunneoincarnata App identified as *Lepiota brunneoincarnata*. Poisonous and similar to other two edible species. ---
## Pale brittlestem https://www.woodlands.co.uk/blog/flora-and-fauna/august-fungi-focus-pale-brittlestem-candolleomyces-candolleanus-psathyrella-candolleana/ App identified as *Psathyrella candolleana*. ---
## Sticky scalycap https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pholiota_gummosa App identified as *Pholiota gummosa*. Lives of dead wood (saprophyte).
