They can reach up to two meters deep, and support roots: This type of roots originate in the nodes, near the soil surface. They favor a greater stability and reduce the problem of lodging. Support roots carry out photosynthesis, aerial roots are roots that do not reach the soil.</p>

He also points out that it is one of the most productive cultivated species, with a high rate of photosynthetic activity.</div>

It was the first cereal to undergo rapid and important technological transformations in its cultivation, which has stimulated a widespread agricultural revolution in many parts of the world.</div>

It is the leading cereal in grain yield per hectare and is second only to wheat in total production.
