#### Artificial seasoning
####

Artificial seasoning is a much faster way of wood drying than natural seasoning. It can be done within a matter of hours whereas natural seasoning costs a lot of time.

* **Kiln seasoning** is a process in which the timber is placed inside a heating room called as kiln where temperatures are raised to dry the moisture from the log.
* One of the benefits of this process is that it is carried out in large scale and many timber logs can be seasoned at a time.
* This process usually takes 3-12 days for completion but provides well seasoned timber.

* **Chemical Seasoning** is the process in which a salt solution is used to absorb the sap from the timber in a pressurised cylinder.
* This method might require upto 30-40 days.
* Due to the involvement of chemicals, this process can also affect the strength of the timber sometimes.

* Electrical seasoning: In this process electric current of a high frequency is passed through the green timber pieces which initially has low resistance because of high moisture content. the timber starts to dry because of the heat that is generated in the process and offers greater resistance to the current.

* This is the fastest method in artificial seasoning but it is not economical. The machines that are required for this process are of very high cost also with the fact that it requires so much electricity.
* The process lasts for about 5-8 hours.

Natural and artificial seasoning both have their advantages over each other, but it is the requirement which decides how the timber is going to be processed or seasoned. It depends wether it is going to be used for indoors or outdoors or for other activities. So, these were some of the important procedures that timber logs have to go through before they can be used for any activity. Hope this was informative :)
