About three months ago, at the end of April, I came across a call for applications from Slow Food International while I was on the train heading to @buzzparty’s Hive Creators Day. It was an open call for the Negroni Fund scholarship, offering \$1,000 for travel expenses and arranging local accommodation for people involved in the world of slow drinks to participate in a Slow Food event. [Slow Food Negroni Week Fund Unveils 2025 Education Scholarships - Slow Food](https://www.slowfood.com/blog-and-news/slow-food-negroni-week-fund-unveils-2025-education-scholarships/) Those who have followed me on Hive for a while may know that since 2020, I’ve been making Japanese shiso syrup in Leipzig, Germany. It all started when I tried selling shiso seedlings, which turned out to be surprisingly popular at a local market. Then I made shiso syrup—and again, it was well received. In 2021, I received support from the state of Saxony for one year to scale up production, and I’ve continued ever since. When I saw the Slow Food call, I felt it might be a great opportunity to explore new possibilities for my shiso syrup. So I wrote my application during the long journey to Graz. About a month later, I received an email saying I’d been selected! Last month, I had a conference call with two of the hosts. To my surprise, one of them—Danny Childs, the author of [*Slow Drinks*](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Slow-Drinks-Fermenting-Botanical-Cocktails/dp/1958417300/)—told me he grows shiso in his backyard. Of course, after that call, I ordered *Slow Drinks* and started reading it… and it’s such a beautiful book. But more on that another time. The other day, I signed the contract, and today I booked my flight. And I found my info public on [the Slow Food's website](https://www.slowfood.com/insights/grantees-and-funded-projects/), that’s when I felt it was okay to share the news on Hive Blog! Thank you all so much for your upvotes and warm comments, as always! The event I’ll be attending, **Terra Madre Americas**, will be held in late September, so I still have about two months to go. I hope to spend the time thinking about what I want to learn and experience there—and of course, I’ll be posting about it here once I return! Have a nice weekend, everyone!
