These days Steem Dollar price is stable around 1USD. Some may be sad to see the gap between the price of last year end. Honestly speaking I also feel so sometimes ;) 

Few weeks ago, when I had a chance to do a small survey about stable coins, I remembered that I read SBD was pegged to USD, 1SBD = 1USD and opened the white paper after a while (Jun 2018 version).

In the intro section, it's written as one of the services the Steem community provides for its members:

>  A stable cryptocurrency pegged to the US dollar.

So Steem aims to make SBD stable, the term "stable coin" is not used though. Right now it's roughly around 1SBD = 1USD. Good job! I wonder what was the reason that the peg mechanism didn't work around the crypto bubble last year. Was the buying power too strong in a short period?

The speculative situation could have been good for SBD holders while SP holders who wanted to have fiat out of SP missed the timing to sell SBD as it takes time to convert SP to SBD by powering down. It might be also difficult for people who uses SBD to buy/sell goods and services with SBD.

It has pros and cons. In the short run it may be a happy situation for most of us if the SBD price goes up and up. However it is ideal that SBD stays stable to establish a real token economy, not just a buzz word. Even in the current situation, where SBD is less than 10% of its all time high, some well received posts earn tens or hundreds dollar equivalent. If the authors receive the amount continuously, it is still possible to be a full time Steemian. Somehow now I see real value of my posts plus supports from communities such as JP community (thanks!).

I expect that stable SBD helps us to do things listed below and gradually a token economy is formed:

* <b>SBD based business</b>
A good example is @skyleap, who draws portraits. It's clever that he sets the price with USD and accepts also the equivalent amount of crypto.
* <b>Donation to projects and others</b>
If SBD is not stable, we may have a regret (?) such as "Oh no the 20SBD I donated is currently 200 USD ..." and hesitate to donate. With stable SBD, we can make donations with less hesitation.
* <b>Raising fund for a project</b>
In some projects, for example a product building project, they have to buy materials with fiat price tag. If SBD price drops unexpectedly, it may yield bankruptcy of a project. This is what I was thinking when I was translating Fundition interface into Japanese.  

So though I still feel a bit sad sometimes to see the dollar amount my posts earn, somehow I'm happy to watch over how a token economy is formed with stable SBD in the near future. It would be nice if I can start a small business or a project as a part of the economy :)

Besides stable SBD, I also look forward to seeing how the smart media token works. It will be released in 2019.

このところSBDの値段がちょっと残念という意見をみかけて、私自身「ああ去年の年末の値段だったらなあ」なんて妄想もします。少し前にステーブルコインについて調べる機会があり、そういえばSBDって実は1USD=1SBDが想定されてなかったっけと久しぶりにホワイトペーパーを開いてみました。2018年6月版です。

冒頭にSteemコミュニティーが提供するサービスのひとつとして以下の記述があります：

固定される割合は1USD=1SBDです。ということでステーブルコインを目指していることになります。今は結構いい線いっていますが2017年12月ごろからえらいこっちゃになっています。全然ステーブルじゃない！

この状況は流動性の高い（すぐに換金できる）SBDホルダーにとってはうれしい状況です。逆にSPにしてしまっているとパワーダウンに時間がかるので、法定通貨など他通貨にかえたいのにもどかしい思いをされたという方もいるかもしれません。SBDを商売に使っている方も日々価格ががんがん動くと扱いづらかったかと思います。

というようにSBDの価格が投機的になることにはよい面と難しい面があります。短期的にお財布があたたまってほくほくするという点では価格の高騰もうれしいのですが、安定的なトークンエコノミーが構築されるにはステーブルであるのが理想的だと考えています。この低調な時にも数十ドル、数百ドル相当ついているよい投稿はみかけますので。USD換算するとしょんぼりすることもありますが、これが私の記事の本当の価値だったのかななんて。それでも特に日本コミュニティーの支援ありで私はかなりめぐまれている方だと思います。

個人的には、価格が安定すると以下のようなことがしやすくなって、いわゆるトークンエコノミーが形成されていくのではと期待しています。

* <b>SBDベースでのお商売</b>
似顔絵を書かれている @skyleap さんがとてもよい例だと思います。今見てみたら価格をUSDで固定されていますね。法定通貨で固定して随時仮想通貨で受け取るというのも一案でなるほど！と思いました。さすが。
* <b>プロジェクトへの寄付、個人への投げ銭</b>
「あああの時の20SBD、今では200USD相当！？ひょえー・・・」ということがなくなり、より迷いなく寄付や投げ銭をできるようになると思います。
* <b>プロジェクトでの寄付募集</b>
材料を買うなど法定通貨を必要とするプロジェクトで、「ぐわーSBD、だだ下がり・・・」でプロジェクトが破綻するような悲しいことがなくなります。これは fundition の翻訳をしながら考えていました。

そんなこんなで私自身は投稿につくドルマークのあとの数字を気にかけつつも、トークンエコノミーがバズワードではなく本当にできるのか楽しみに見守っていきたいと思います。私自身もその一端で何かお商売をしたり、Fundition のようなプラットフォームを使ってプロジェクトを始めたいとも思っています。

あとは2019年にローンチが予定されているSteemのスマートメディアトークンも楽しみにしています。個人や組織、サービスがトークンを発行できるようになってどうなるのかはまだ想像もつきませんが。
