Attempting to make a scoby from scratch for kombucha
My fist attempt at making a scoby. We would like to have kombucha that we make but know no one with a scoby we could acquire. So I am attempting to make one from scratch. The process is not fast and I won’t know for several weeks if it is working. I took 2.5 cups of water and heated it in the microwave then added 2 black tea bags.

Make sure that the tea is 100% black tea nothing else can bee in the tea. Then I added about 3 tablespoons of sugar. And allowed it to cool to room temperature. Next you will need some kombucha bring this to room
temperature also sitting in the counter.

When both, the fresh tea and kombucha, are at room temperature mix them together in a glass jar and cover with cheese cloth. Place the jar in a dark corner of a cabinet for 3 weeks try your best not to disturb the jar.

My end goal is to make konbucha from chaga tea. Black tea will not grow well in my climate. We harvest our own chaga so it would be absolutely no cost to us.
