My Crypto Portfolio: And why Steem has earned a 15% piece of the pie.

So…This is my first Steemit blog about cryptocurrencies…I have mainly been posting about travel as it is one of my great passions in life, along with other awesome adventures going on in my life that I deem Steemit worthy…but I figured why not share some cryptocurrency knowledge that I've learned in the few months since I joined the crypto world, what my portfolio looks like and why it is diversified the way it is, even though its constantly changing.

Firstly, my portfolio…

Here's a pie chart of what my typical day pie chart looks like.
![Piechart.png](https://res.cloudinary.com/hpiynhbhq/image/upload/v1519233570/muhu3xmxor2cxueaxiww.png)

My portfolio is split 50/50 between HODL coins and Trading coins or play coins...with 15% of the trade coins being exchange coins.

*****DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE. DO NOT MODEL YOUR PORTFOLIO AFTER MINE UNLESS YOU CHOOSE TO DO SO ON YOUR OWN ACCORD AND RISK, ANY INVESTMENT IN CRYPTOCURRENCIES CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF SOME OR ALL OF YOUR MONEY, PASSED RESULTS ARE NOT INDICATIVE OF FUTURE PERFORMANCE*****

I think the disclaimer is so obvious that it shouldn't even be required, nevertheless I wouldn't want someone trying to blame me! I'm no crypto expert or day trader, but I have learned some very important information quite quickly in the crypto world. Lessons that in my opinion could take years/decades to learn on the stock market. Even through this major correction, I have managed to still be in positive territory, and even gain some better position while going downhill on the rollercoaster.

1) *** THE HODL'ers:** BITCOIN, ETHER, RIPPLE (and within the last month STEEM)
![HODLS.png](https://res.cloudinary.com/hpiynhbhq/image/upload/v1519233656/omjfc3nijblehk2xoimf.png)

These 4 currencies make up 50% of my portfolio, and only one is actually intended to be a "cryptocurrency," Bitcoin. When I first got into crypto I purchased Bitcoin and Ethereum with fiat…I quickly began to see that Ethereum was actually a much better coin and more useful to the blockchain than Bitcoin, but Bitcoin was and is the king. I thought that there is a possibility that it could become the 2nd coin in terms of market cap but that never happened and now I don't think it ever will. Partially because it was first and partially because mainstream media talks about bitcoin as if there are no other coins so newcomers get into bitcoin.

BITCOIN & ETHEREUM: These are HODL for me because in the words of the Winklevoss twins ***"If you buy Bitcoin or Etheruem you are buying a piece of the track, if your buying any other alt coin your betting on a horse.***" (I made this quote bold because if you take nothing else from this blog, at least take that sentence. Although many wouldn't agree with that, I do and in the short time that the crypto world has been around it has proven to be correct!

RIPPLE: People either love Ripple or hate ripple depending on when they picked it up, I managed to pick up 90% of my ripple at 25 cents, which has really helped keep me afloat during this roller coaster ride downwards. I believe in Ripple's product, I also like the centralization behind it, WHAT?!?!? Yes, decentralization is not everything in my opinion, the major benefit to decentralization is anonymity, however that usually comes at a cost. Slower transaction speeds and more prone to hacking…Ripple is a bank coin as people say, but I always say, banks never
lose…

STEEM:
![Steemit logo.png](https://res.cloudinary.com/hpiynhbhq/image/upload/v1519233976/ruemjtvjoakpfvcjehmo.png)
STEEM: Where do I begin? Well let's just start at the beginning… I began almost a month ago here on Steemit, originally I said I would give Steemit a try for 1-2 months without investing any money into it to test it out and see if it is really what everyone is making it out to be...As I began to post I noticed that content is everything and the quality of my content improved exponentially… and fell in love.

Here are just a few reasons why Steem has recently become a HODL for me… I will be posting an in dept blog about this in the very near future.

STEEMIT HAS A GREAT PLATFORM: Just a few days ago, Steem became 15% of my portfolio because of the greatness of the platform, users from all over the world can post their content and be rewarded accordingly. The platform is amazing and I recognized that it is here to stay. I felt welcomed from very early on. This platform is here to stay and therefore it has become a HODL for me. (I know, I know, I need to transfer some Steem to my wallet) but…my initial test phase still isn't over yet!
P.S. I secretly like to play between Steem and SBD

STEEMIT UTILIZES BLOCKCHAIN TECH EXTREMELY EFFECTIVELY: The way that Steem, SP, and SBD, delegation etc…is set up is quite impressive to me. I don't see many other cryptos out there utilizing the blockchain to such great lengths and in fact there isn't since Steem constantly takes #1 on blockchain txn's.

STEEMIT COMMUNITY: This was something that I never expected…Community on the blockchain! In the short month I have been there I have met some incredible people and learned an incredible wealth of knowledge that I can take with me the rest of my life…I have made friends and become part of a crypto world community it's truly impressive.

** 2) Trading Coins/Play coins**
![Play.png](https://res.cloudinary.com/hpiynhbhq/image/upload/v1519234194/zjzcelyqvg3fxsyekly2.png)

VERGE: This coin was one that I originally fell in love with...(never fall in love with coins it can be extremely dangerous). But I did and in a strange way I still am…because it is one of my main play coins. I know people hate it and its used to be called dogecoin dark etc…but I still like it and because of its volatility and consistently high trade volume, for me it is a great play coin. I usually take profits and turn them into my hodl coins, or just tether and come in at a better position (I know what's going on with tether) But if tether goes down, something else will replace it...

ZClassic: I was originally drawn after its huge spike…after doing research the spike was due to a fork which I'm sure most people know about now. In my opinion it's a good play coin now too because it has been constantly moving up and down every couple days. ZClassic is working with bitcoin to create Bitcoin Private, combining the best of bitcoin and zclassic. The fork will reward zclassic owners on a 1:1 ratio with bitcoin private. So why not get some free coins?

OTHER ALTCOINS: I won't go into detail about which ones I hold because most of these are short term and constantly changing. However, I use mostly the same tactics as I do with Verge on the alt coins, but many of my alt coins are ranked 100 and lower on Coinmarket cap which could imply higher risk factor…never invest money you aren't willing to lose!

**# 3) Exchange Coins**

![Exchange.png](https://res.cloudinary.com/hpiynhbhq/image/upload/v1519234382/nkt6xrl8nldrnadwzxaz.png)

BITSHARES, KUCOIN SHARES, BINANCE COINS: Each of these exchanges have benefits of their own, each have pros and cons but I mostly hold these because they offer something beneficial in their own rite.

Kucoin shares gives you a small percentage back just for holding KCS in their exchange…although its small, at least you get something in return.

Binance: Holding any currency in binance exchange offers some interest back I'm not sure the % but its something, however using Binance coins offers a 50% discount on trade fees, which if you trade a lot can add up so it's worth holding some of these coins just to save some money.

Bitshares: Although BTS doesn't directly offer any incentives, (at least that I'm aware of) it does offer a decentralized exchange which for many people is very important. Complete anonymity can be rewarding and is understandably a key factor, after all we are dealing with "Crypto" currencies…hidden or secret currencies…I also think that these coins will grow exponentially in the future because there will always be a demand for exchanges. So, in my opinion they will only grow with time.

Thanks for all the support I have received on Steemit… If you have any advice to help make others a better trader please feel free to share in the comments below!
