http://godfatherpolitics.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/First-Amendment_detail.png Why do you not have free speech over the internet? "The First Amendment guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition. It forbids Congress from both promoting one religion over others and also restricting an individual’s religious practices. It guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely. It also guarantees the right of citizens to assemble peaceably and to petition their government. " (Cornell law school) Congress has no right to

Promote on religion over another

Restricting religious practices

Restricting free speech

Stop peaceful assembly and petition

The Constitution was made to outline what the government can not do. A website that is hosted on a private server is considered private property. In the terms and conditions it (oftentimes) says that the poster is the one responsible for laws but "the content must be used for it's intended purpose" (paraphrase of below). This means that since it is on private property they can simply not allow access to the website on these grounds. This means they own your account and can do what ever they want with it. They can't stop you typing words but they can stop it reaching others ears. "Speech" on the internet is just data. The data is on their servers. They can do what they want with it. "Steemit contains data, text, photographs, images, video, audio, graphics, articles, comments, software, code, scripts and other content supplied by us, the Steem blockchain or our licensors, which we call “Steemit Content.” Steemit Content is protected by intellectual property laws, including copyright and other proprietary rights of the United States and foreign countries. Except as explicitly stated in these Terms, Steemit does not grant any express or implied rights to use Steemit Content. You are granted a limited, nonexclusive, non-transferable, and non-sublicensable license to access and use Steemit and Steemit Content for your personal, non-commercial use. This license is subject to these Terms and does not include any right to: (a) distribute, publicly perform or publicly display any Steemit Content; (b) modify or otherwise make any derivative uses of Steemit or Steemit Content, or any portion thereof; (c) use any data mining, robots or similar data gathering or extraction methods; and (d) use Steemit or Steemit Content other than for their intended purposes. Any use of Steemit or Steemit Content other than as authorized in these Terms is strictly prohibited and will terminate the license granted herein. This license is revocable at any time."

Even if you communicate directly with another user without the need of a website you will have other problems. Another problem is that to use the internet need to buy an internet service provider. (Unless you are not one yourself.) The government does not provide internet (a plan for that is in motion however yay more spying), so, that means you must use private property to use the internet at all. They can moderate the connection as they please. So basically, the internet is 99.9% private property 0.1% government. We can't rely on the government to fight the large corporations that own the government anyway. We must fight this ourselves.
