Earlier today, as I was going through curating on promotional posts, I came across this post from @jona12. He's brand new to the platform, been with us for less than a month, originally from Rwanda, but now lives in Uganda.
His previous posts have made him a few dollars here and there, and I'm sure that like all newbies, he's probably been quite pleased to see anything going into his account. I like upvoting Steem Promotional posts from people in other countries, especially in Africa, where average salaries are much less than they are where I live in the UK. One thing I've noticed is that some of these promoters are absolutely prolific, they really go for it, and their promotional activities are second to none. So, today, I upvoted him, both from my personal account, and the @steem-ambassador account too, because I really liked what he was doing. I also resteemed him too. He spoke passionately. He was talking about the fact that for many Ugandan's they live on less than $1 per day. He posed the question "how do you think it feels to only eat one meal a day, because that's all you can afford?" and how not only is Steemit helping him get out of poverty, but he's not keeping it to himself.... He wants to share it about, and even do charitable work with it! What a fucking superstar. This guy is telling every student he can find about Steemit in his hall at the Christian University of Uganda. He's so unbelievably passionate, and he really means it. He is a massive example of what the STEEM blockchain can bring to peoples lives in other parts of the world from the one I have been fortunate enough to be born into. Then I checked back in later, and holy shit...his post which was at less than a dollar before, had now reached over 300$, mainly thanks to an extremely generous whale, who has been very supportive of the work we've been doing at promo-steem. I want to say a massive thanks to @thejohalfiles because I think you've really made not only this guys day, but his month and year too, and in that act of upvoting, we now have a promoter who I believe will put absolutely EVERYTHING into telling people about Steemit, and I hope the STEEM blockchain too.
It won't always be a whale upvote on your posts, and when they come they are amazing. But this guy deserves it, for his passion, his story and his energy.
This is an example of adding value to the STEEM blockchain. This is absolute proof that cryptocurrency isn't just about making investors wealthier. It's about how it changes real peoples lives.
I hope to see this guy become a massive STEEM promoter in the future. I'm sure he will be. I'm glad I could have been at least a small part of it, and hope he's dancing like crazy now!
