Indonesia, one of the largest archipelagos in the world, made up of more than 17,000 islands, is considering blockchain as the possible solution to its problems to maintain records.

The largest economy in Southeast Asia, has presented problems to maintain correctly the data within the territory; ranging from commercial financing and electoral registers, to food production.

Blockchain, being a technology that allows to share up-to-date information and keep safeguarded the records made in the network, without depending on any central authority, is presented as the great solution to the difficulties of the nation.

The government of the Asian country is analyzing the ways in which the block chains can benefit the population, implementing it through public policies.

Sri Mulyani Indrawat, Minister of Finance, said that "we want to use the technology platform to be able to identify those groups of people who need to obtain benefits," according to Reuters .

He also assured that they were working to use blockchain in government subsidy programs, as well as microloans. On the other hand, the Financial Services Authority has dedicated a whole team to study how block chain technology can be used in the industry.

A clear example of this can be the agricultural sector. In Indonesia, subsidies to farms depend on the quantity of products harvested during a given period of time. The problem is that there is no way to corroborate if the quantity declared coincides with the quantity harvested. But with blockchain this difficulty would no longer exist because the government would be able to authenticate the information supplied.

Another aspect in which the chain block technology can be extremely useful is the electoral one. The verification system that it has can reduce fraud and address the electoral problems presented by countries with extremely dispersed populations, such as Indonesia, where its almost 250 million inhabitants are unevenly distributed on its thousands of islands.

Horizon State, a voting platform based on blockchain, has announced its intention to introduce a telephone app in Sumatra, one of the islands of the Asian country, which will allow direct surveys on local policy issues.

The fiscal sector is not far behind. Online Pajak, a technology company related to the presentation of taxes, recently presented a new application, also supported by block chains, which allows users to share encrypted tax data with various institutions, such as tax and treasury offices, banks, the Central Bank and others related to the financial area.

"Today in Indonesia, there is no proof that you paid," said company founder Charles Guinot. That is why it considers that by using this technology, transparency in operations can be increased, as well as reducing paperwork and errors.

The blockchain technology has proven to be very versatile, being able to be used in almost any sector. More and more countries and companies adopt it to improve their processes and, in this way, improve the quality of life of the population.
