_**Hey there wonderful Steemit'ers!!!**_ Day 3 in this wonderful herb land of mine and the choice today is the fuzzy, *verbascum thapsus* or commonly know as Mullein. *(Photo Credit: Me! <3)* This awesome fuzz-ball has soooooo many interesting names-That I have to list some! Lady's Flannel, Velvet Dock, Rag Paper, Bullock's Lungwort Candlewick Plant, Beggar's blanket, Hag's Taper, <---------Yeah that's right-Taper you Hag already, will ya!? :') Aaron's rod, <----------------Hahahaha Why Aaron and Not Trevor? :') Jupitar's Staff, Jacob's Staff, Golden Rod, Peter's Staff, Shepard's Staff, <--------------So many name's of one staff :') Cuddy's Lungs, Duffle, Feltwort, Fluffweed and Hare's Beard...... Just to name a few :') The leaves and flowers are used medicinally. And the leaves of *fresh Mullein* are used in making certain homeopathic tinctures-specifically for migraines or a 'sick' headache that has been around for awhile *(repression of ear)*. The leaves are bitter and full of moisture (also referred to as *mucilage*). *Verbascum thapsus* is administered through tea, tinctures, poultices and smoke. Guess what else Mullein was good for back in Roman times? **_Toilet Paper._** And let me tell you right now that I can **TOTALLY** imagine using those leaves as toilet paper-*Comfortably* :') Although, I must admit, my heart would be breaking at the thought of losing such a valuable item--------> to my butt. :') **A few other handy uses for this little treasure are:** * Bleeding of lungs and bowels * Coughs ----------------->**LOTS** of coughs. We will delve further, later. * Diarrhoea *(When there is bleeding in the bowels, decoct 1oz dried leaves in milk-almond is fine-to consume) * **An oil produced by mixing the flowers with olive/grapeseed oil, in a corked/sealed bottle and being left in the sun/heat for several days, is used for local application. Specifically for bruising, Piles, Frost Bite and ear ailments. This particular oil is a fantastic destroyer of germs that cause di-sease.** * As an added note-To utilise Mullein oil *(as above)* during ear ailments- 1 drop if the ailment is mild; 2 or 3 if acute/chronic -2 or 3 times a day straight into the affected ear canal. *(photo credit to: David Cavagnaro)* * A decoction of *verbascum thapsus* roots, held in the mouth for several minutes, will alleviate a toothache and is good for cramps and convulsions * Juice and powder made from the roots; rub on *__rough__* warts to quickly remove. -note will not work on 'smooth' warts * One of the weird things I learnt on this journey, about Mullein, is that if you wrap figs in them-They won't rot-**_Ever_**. **How cool is that!?** * Fresh leaves worn in stockings will assist with circulation *__(and keep you warm! Seriously!)__* :') * Ashes of the plant in soap is said to return grey hair to its original colour. *(Not tested and tried personally-When I get some greys I will post about it)*. Also, in Roman days, an infusion of the flowers *(yellow)*, was used as a hair dye. * The dried leaves can be smoked to relieve the irritation of the respiratory mucus membranes, and supposedly controls a hacking cough caused by long term smoking, exposure to chemicals, Asthma *(spasmodic coughs in general)* * Mullein's leaves dried and rolled, were used as candlewicks and torch wicks. * The last thing to mention is that Mullein is slightly **narcotic** in its actions-So if you decide to buy and use this amazing Herb...**Be warned**! <3 **_Hope you have all enjoyed another day wandering through this Steemit'ers Herbal Wonderland_** _**I love sharing**_ *__SteeMonnnnnnn!!!__*
