Madara Uchiha befriended Hashirama on clan wars. However, because of the interests of their respective clans, the two are more of a rival than a friend. In the end, Madara can be defeated by Hashirama and by the elected Hashirama elected as Hokage.

However, it makes Madara slightly dissatisfied and envious of Hashirama. His strong ambition made him want a top position in the village of Konoha.
