#### You vs Google.

https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmYh9h6vE2fFZK55gfDraAJxEfi11oeCkYSbVurxPZP8TB/image.png
There are two things you must find to bring you success as a writer: your niche and your audience. No matter if you write for medical journals or sci-fi magazines, the faster you find these two things, the quicker your climb up the ladder to success. When you first start out writing, you'll be taking on a variety of assignments. Honing your craft and finding your voice while seeing what works and what pays. After a time you'll find yourself writing more on a particular subject. Some writers choose their niche because they are already well versed in the subject, while other writers develop a liking in a certain area and work to become an expert through research. Successful writers stand on a solid foundation of knowledge and expertise in one subject. They rock it inside and out, with their passion showing through in their words. They own it. **Own your niche.**
What do you write about? Tell me in **ten words or less**. If you can't you might not be pinpointed enough in your niche selection or you have not found yours yet. Now you have a niche. You are distinguished with a certain subject after building a reputation as an expert in that material. Once your reputation is viewed as an authority in that theme you are more respected and marketable. And, therefore, demand higher pay per piece. Now your audience has to find you. People need to **remember you by what you write**. How do they do that? Think of how you look for a particular book. You go into the bookstore or library and ask for this book. But you can't remember the title. What will the clerk ask you? The name of the author.

https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmehqZg7hSwkGGX1p3tCXVgtHfz51AtZDigS9zzWLR7Rw2/image.png
But what if you can't remember the name of the author? You'll stumble about with a sort of synopsis that's particular enough yet concise with hope that the person can zero in on that book you want. You want to write in such a way that one can say: "she writes teen vampire novels," or "he wrote a novel about the murder of a family in the Midwest," or even, "he writes about how to get ornery cats to settle down and be part of the family." This makes it easy for clerks, librarians, and even google searches to hone in and find you and your writings. Your author website should highlight your niche and be a stellar representation, in ten words or less. ### Think of yourself as a Google search. How will someone searching for you find you?
https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmcT1KvGPYrbssjBY5mZtNiznQ4egB9sQZL7nAffu2sqRj/heart%20line%20divider.png #### Steemit works because of you. ##### You have the power to determine the success of your colleagues.
