Hadn't heard of [steemit](http://steemit.com) till today. First day, first hour, hugely impressed. I suppose what impressed me most is an excellent help page and an associated white paper that goes with it. There are layers of encrypted protection and identity management, a super clean interface. Last week, Ev Williams wrote in Medium about new ways of monetizing from Medium; this might be a great idea. The currency of "likes" and interaction are based on bitcoin. 

That said, I do not see a way in which I can use my regular markdown editor such as Ulysses to post here.
