0.000 HBDOur Tiny House Progress
Since my first video on our little cabin delivery, I have had a lot of questions as well as folks asking to see the progress on the home so far. Here are some of the pics we have taken over the last couple of months on the progress. We will be doing more projects on the house as it starts to warm up and I will post those pics more often! Our first step was to get the bedroom insulated and drywalled. We knew that if we had one comfortable room to rest and sleep in, we can manage the other areas as we go. When we arrived here, we only had a help from my in-laws for a few days before they had to head back to Nebraska. After the bedroom was done, we needed to get the water situation set up, as well as the bathroom. We knew that the next important step after setting up a sleeping area was to set up a place to get clean and to use the bathroom. Our initial setup was a little overkill for our needs, but being new to outfitting a house, I was glad that we overthought instead of underthought! From there, the kitchen sink and fridge were installed. Once the water was in place, it was time for a little more insulation and drywall. We also got some cabinets up for storage. The Mrs. built our counter bottom out of 2x4s and pallet wood. I installed a 3-burner propane RV stove in the countertop. Our cabinet, countertop, fridge, bath and kitchen sinks, the kitchen sink base, and shower stall we all acquired off Craigslist for free! One thing we made sure to do when planning for the house was to find as much free items as we could to furnish the house, and it worked out great! We also acquired a large amount of old hay that needed to be removed from a cattle farm, we stuffed it into black trash bags and stuffed them under the house to keep out the wind and cold. It worked out really nice and was a great temporary, one season fix. Bonus: we have a lot of green matter for compost in the spring! We also set up a basic rain catchment with a 275-gallon IBC tote on each side of the house. The down spout has a mesh inside the tube to stop debris falling in the tank. We have discovered that if we have one good day each month of rain, it will suit all of our needs in the home. We have a lot of exciting projects lined up this spring and summer we can’t wait to show you. It has taken us a little time to get settled in and decide on exactly what we want to do. The next projects are to install a set of attic stairs in the bedroom up to the loft. We want to make the upper area a “sleeping den” with stairs leading into the bedroom for changing, as well as an office/library area. From there we will finish the ceiling with a mylar barrier and cedar planks. We also acquired some beautiful blue and white wall tile we will be using to finish the bathroom walls and floor. From there a new, smaller composting toilet and a standing urinal as well. We have some big jobs ahead of us and we can’t wait to show you the journey! Thank you for stopping by and showing your support!
