<center><h2>Where's the Apple?</h2></center>

<p>My colleague gave me an "apple" today. He said it came from Jordan and I should try it. It tastes nice and best of all, nutritious.</p>

<p>But hey, this tiny fruit? How can this be an apple?! It is round shaped, no bigger than an inch in diameter as you can see on this reference photo below. </p>

<p>This fruit is called "doum" (or dom) a fruit of the doum palm tree or more commonly known as the gingerbread tree.
 It normally grows in the Arabian Peninsula and also in the northern half of Africa.</p>
<p>The one they gave me is the still un-ripe fruit. Like <a href = "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_palm">dates palm fruit</a>, it shall get reddish brown when really ripe. It also gets much sweeter, which makes it attractive to honey bees. Subsequently, these bees produce a very good variety of honey called the seder (sidr) honey.</p>

<p>The doum fruit when opened, has a big round seed inside covered with the fleshy part. The flesh is also just a thin layer of the fruit as you can observe at the right photo. </p>
<p>Apple? It does not really taste like an apple. Ok, a little bit like an apple. It is a combination of sweet-sour taste, the smell is like an old cheddar cheese. Or something like that. LOL. </p>

<p>My Jordanian colleagues are too eager to share these tiny fruits to me, it is practically rude to decline.  And hey, it's not too bad to learn (err, taste)something new every <strike>now and then</strike> day. Another plus, is that I am able to showcase my "photography" talent and prove that my good ol' Samsung Galaxy Note 3 still has something to offer. </p>
