Chief Ikodu was led out of the King's courtyard.
Reverend Bonsu was sitting under the pear tree reading his bible when Chief Ikodu walked into the yard. Ever since the Reverend and his missionary team came into the village, they have been living in Chief Ikodu's house and using it as their place of worship. He has been the intermediary between them and the King since the King has refused to see the Reverend in person. At first, like other members of the community, Chief Ikodu has seen the Reverend and his team as a band of riff-rafs who have been accursed by the gods and had avoided them like lepers. But some weeks ago, his son Womi got seriously ill and the Chief Priest has declared that he won't survive it because the gods have marked him for death. On his way back with his near death son, he came across Reverend Bonsu and his team resting under the Silk cotton tree and when he saw the Chief and his son, he came close and asking what was the matter, he was told and he immediately called the mission's nurse among them. Few treatments later, the boy could talk and eat properly as was not the case a couple of days back, ever since then, Ikodu has made himself available to them and even offering them shelter in his compound.
The King has refused our pleas again, he told the Reverend.
Hmm! God will take control. Reverend Bonsu said. I have concluded arrangement for your son to travel next week to across the great sea so he can study in a more advanced country. The resident officer has just sent a messenger to bring him to the headquarters tomorrow.
