***Are we the only beings in the universe? This is one of the biggest questions of astronomy. Is Earth unique? It would seem that yes. Meanwhile, there are millions of other planets in space...*** The sun is one of about 400 billion stars that fill the Milky Way (our galaxy). Not counting stars in other galaxies. It is possible that planets orbit around most of them, and that their conditions could be conducive to the creation of life. Organic compounds needed for the construction of living organisms are quite common in space. For life to be created in simple forms, such as bacteria or other microorganisms, it can come quite easily. **Perhaps such a simple life occurs quite often and is in the universe just something ordinary.** So let us assume that simple life forms can occur in space universally. And what about a more advanced life? It's not so easy. **Developed and intelligent life forms can turn out to be very rare**. Many coincidences must take place to create them. The distance of the Sun to Earth is such that the water is in a liquid state. Our planet is circling a fixed orbit around a quiet star. Even the moon acts as a protection of life on Earth, because it eliminates fluctuations of the Earth's axis, thus preventing the rapid changes of climate on our planet. The Earth's atmosphere contains carbon dioxide in an amount that does not have a greenhouse effect as for Venus. The Earth is located in a quiet part of the galaxy, away from exploding supernovae or neutron stars, whose gravity and radiation could destroy the life being created. Through these appropriate conditions, lasting billions of years, microorganisms may have been created and developed into more complex forms. **This amazing coincidence makes the Earth unique.** Intelligent creatures that were created on Earth are therefore unique, but we also know that the cosmos is huge and it can not be ruled out that similar coincidences like on Earth did not occur somewhere. **I will say more, it is possible that somewhere there were better conditions than on Earth, they lasted much longer and resulted in creatures more developed than us**. This thought seems to be disturbing. Let's think what would happen when they got to us first ... One should hope that intelligent beings come peacefully to get acquainted with another civilization. **Unfortunately, it seems to me more likely a scenario that met the Indians after the appearance of the Spanish conquistadors in their world**๐ We hope that this will not happen in the near future. Often, I watch the universe through a telescope and see distant galaxies with my own eyes. **In my opinion, we can not be alone in this gigantic space**. And what is your opinion? I invite you to the discussion๐ ***Greetings to space lovers***๐ *Image source: https://pixabay.com* *All rights reserved by @astromaniak 2018*
