Gone Fishing: A Short Photographic Story of My Yesterday
### I present to you some photos from my recent fishing adventure on the coastal inland waters.

I took a little break from the computer yesterday and hit the waters for some good old-fashioned fishing. A friend of mine and I hopped in the boat and went on the hunt for some redfish (technically called “red drum”). It was a rainy day, but we managed to catch five redfish, four trout, three mangrove snappers, a stingray, and even a couple of blue crabs that like to latch on to the finger mullet we often use as bait. At the end of the day, we took home two redfish and two trout...soon to be swimming around in my belly!

Here are my photos and some accompanying commentary:

These are a few shots of the areas where we usually fish. I would have had better ones, but the rain was off and on all day, so I just snapped a few when I had a chance – between showers, drinking beers, and catching fish.

After the first catch, it’s customary (at least for us) to crack open the first beer and start drinking. My first catch was around 8:00am. This was taken much later, as the alcohol improved my aptitude for photography. I think I need to contact Blue Moon and sell them my professional photos. What do you think?

You can see the rain in the distance. It eventually hit us...again...but the beer made it more tolerable.

A boat, a line in the water, and beer. Rain or no rain, it makes for a pretty good day.

Two lines in the water are better than one.

I didn’t get any photos while we were catching the fish, but here are the two redfish that we kept. They were on the smaller side – about 20 and 23 inches.

Fileting the reds back at the marina. Redfish have some pretty hard scales, so fileting isn't easy. But the fish is delicious, so cutting through those scales (and an occasional finger or two) is definitely worth it. Those are not my hands.

Here are the local scavengers – always waiting around for a free lunch. But, since we have the scraps anyway, we always toss them a bit to fight over. They always seem disappointed though. Maybe they were looking for the meat instead of the skin and bones?

If I remember to take a picture of the cooked fish, and if those pictures look good, I might share them as well. Thanks for checking out the photos. I hope you enjoyed them. I hope to go out more regularly, so I’ll try to get better ones next time.
