A couple of days ago I talked about [the importance of tamperproof records](https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@badbitch/the-businessuser-value-of-tamperproof-records-and-verifiable-data) to businesses, highlighting the effects bad data has had on the industry coming along.

It turns out, that added to this, the values of blockchain technology, that we've been discussing for months now, specifically NFTs - when it comes to certificates and documents, is finally being leveraged by businesses.

>The credentialing system used by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) will use the Avalanche blockchain to issue tamper-evident certificates in India.

>India is the second-largest IEEE membership base outside the United States, with over 75,000 members. The professional association will issue IEEE credentials or certificates to all trainees and users to make the verification process tamper-proof, instant and secure.

>The IEEE will issue blockchain certificates via LegitDoc, a blockchain-based credential lifecycle management built by Zupple Labs. Speaking to Cointelegraph, Zupple co-founder Neil Martis said that the Indian public sector has become more willing over the last 12 months to implement full-fledged blockchain projects over pilots.

This is a great development coming from IEEE and Zupple Labs.

### 75,000 Tamperproof Certifications

To many folks in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, this might seem like nothing because we are too busy digging for riches but this is actually a huge development.

What's potentially being said here is that 75,000 Indians will gain access to tamperproof certificates that can be used where relevant. In a world where counterfeiting has grown in prevalence, tamperproof records like the DLT or as more commonly known, the blockchain is pivotal for maintaining business integrity and generally security against fake data.

History reveals that fake degrees for example, can be traced back to the time of the first academic degrees.

>According to Ezell and Bear (2005, 30), “the earliest explicit mention of diploma mills is Wooton (1883) who complained about ‘bogus degrees that may claim to have issued from some university which is non existent” According to Wooton, the selling of academic degrees was common place since at least 1730. In 1876, John Eaton, a U.S. Commissioner of Education, called diploma mills a “scandal and disgrace to American education.” [Research Gate](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/235976192_An_Introduction_to_the_Economics_of_Fake_Degrees)

Keyword: Non Existent.

As much as technology has grown popular overtime and the Internet has enhanced the reach to information, it is still largely not effective. Individuals can still lie about the existence of schools or companies just as much as they can falsely claim working with prominent ones with falsified documents.

The role of blockchain technology is to provide a way out for anyone to validate the authenticity of documents on public ledgers. With more businesses and institutions adopting the DLT for housing tangible data deserving public reference, we can expect to have more control over what data gets into our system as valid because they will all be verifiable.

More use of tamperproof records means more authenticity in the academic institutions, the banking sector, company databases and the economy at large.

The importance of this cannot be overstated and it's good to see companies already adopting it. Other than certificates and documents, the blockchain will play a key role in ensuring businesses gain access to full value of the name rather than getting milked by third-parties faking their products or services.
