5-29-2019 ##
Kasilof River Walk
Last Friday, 5-24, was a nice day. The beginning of Memorial Day weekend for the United States. It seems it always rains on this particular weekend and it was not exception. Since Friday after noon we have not had very much sunshine. A lot of clouds and of course on Saturday and Sunday rain. Here are some of the finish up, taken for the #wednesdaywalk post pictures from then.If you hide my resteem my last three post were from the same day, varying aspects of the River Trip/walk. On my way back from the under the bridge views I decided I would take the trail instead of retracing my steps back along the river edge. I really did not want to clamber back over the big tree root, of which I never did get a picture. The first step up onto the trail, well I should have got a picture of that ledge also, but once again, my brain decided to take a short vacation. This was a leg-up ledge, I had to lift my leg to the top of the ledge, and then pull push myself up, to get all the way up the ledge. So I make it to the top of the ledge and the beginning of the trail back to the boat launch temporary parking area. The first thing I notice was this: A small pile of rusty brackets. I guess someone was doing some park clean-up and would be back to bag them later. It was a neatly done pile. This is how hot it was on Friday, and yes it was a pretty warm day for those of us that have lived in Alaska for a few years now. The thermometer is on one of the maintenance buildings, that is tucked nicely away in a wooded area and not poking out like a sore thumb as the one on the opposite side of the river. On the river side of the trail they have this snow style fencing. I think it is mostly for preventing peoples garbage from reaching the river but I really don't know, I thought it was a nice touch to add a little to the trail ambiance. Next down the trail were the steps to get to the boat launch area with out having to walk on the road where people are backing their boats down to the river. That is the view looking up the steps from the river area, the pictures from the top of the trail area, well, they just did not do the steps justice. Back up top on the trail by the steps is the Boating safety sign, there are some leaf and branch shadows on it, and it may have been a good entry in the #shadowphoto contest, but the sign shadows were done for the year already.

here is a big view so you can read it easier
There is a box at the bottom of the sign that holds loaner life jackets, for those boaters that find themselves one or two short because of tag-a-long friends or family visitors joining the fishing trip. Alaska does take it boating and flying safety serious.
Looking back down the short trail to the bridge area. It really is not that long of a trail piece, but there is a lot to see on the trail. At the very end is where that maintenance building is, as you can tell pretty well hidden, and not really a part of the view. Speaking of things on the trail. As everyone knows everything is bigger in Alaska. We have some of the worlds biggest rabbits ever. just look at these rabbit droppings? Do you think they came from a cute cuddly little bunny? Texas may have it's jack-a-lopes but we got the granddaddy of all rabbits. No one has actually seen them before, just the evidence of their passing by an area. here is the photographic evidence of one that hopped along this trail: Okay, so it was not from giant rabbits, just a few moose droppings, but they do get used for a lot of things from swizzle stick to moose poop jewelry just highlight and do a quick google search if ya don't believe me after the short story above. On a more cleaner note, spring is pretty much here and now becoming summer, We still have a few trees left to open their leaves and to start enjoying the weather, and it is now fairly safe to put plants out doors now. Well that pretty much concludes the walk, one last shot before leaving the Kasilof River area, the walk up the boat ramp road. The nicest blue sky view we would have for the foreseeable future.
