Robert went over it all one more time in his head, he knew there would be no turning back, that this was a one way trip, and there would be no convenience store just down the block if he needed anything. He had to take what he wanted with him. The backpacks were a bonus, they gould carry several articles of clothing, socks, undies, soap, small camp sewing kit, all the things he had learned he would need on those 50 mile hikes with the boy scouts. Say what you will but they did teach you to be prepared on those kind of trips.

Another thing he was glad of was the time he spent in the military, he know just how strong the military footlockers were, and how convenient they were for keeping things organized. The first one, he improvised himself, he wanted cookware that was going to last, they would be cooking over open fires for a few years he figured, as an avid western movie watcher he learned that cast iron cookware was pretty sturdy, and that copper/tin combo coffee percolators worked really well. He had the foresight to include some serious kitchen cutlery, and when he thought cutlery he thought knives, big butcher knives down ti the small paring knife. forks and spoons could be carved, but he did include a nice set nonetheless.

The second M.B. as he had taken to thinking of his military boxes was the tools. Tools he thought he would need, hand tools, no power tools, just could not afford the space for them and hand tools. he loved to watch that show New Yankee Workshop the one with the kind of young funny talking guy that used nothing but old fashioned hand tools. he had a tool for just about anything. So after watching hundreds of hours of that show, he obtained what he thought he was going to need, lots of planes and plane blades and bits, several hand drills and bits and an auger, a very nice chisel set and hammers, wrenches and other craftsmen type tool box tools. he was going to want to build and furnish a cabin at some point in the future.

M.B. Three, this he was glad to have been able to obtain, he still had a friend in the Military, that just happened to work in the supply company, and happened to know where there was a mis-placed fully stocked military mobile hospital foot locker, all the scalpels, clamps, and tweezer any non doctor could use, plus a ton o antibiotics, penicillin, and other long lasting medicines. The pain meds he thought would be very important in the event of a serious accident for either himself, his wife, or their dog.

M.B. Four and Five, there was no helping it, he needed two footlockers for protection items. This was the hardest decision he had made, whether to bring guns, or the Bows and Arrows. In the end he decided on the Bows. He felt it would be easier to replace arrows than it would to replace bullets.

The last M.B. was his information and communications system. He knew that he would not be able to replace anything in that locker other than the pencils and paper, he already knew how to make his own paper, and in a pinch, charcoal works for writing.

He was ready, as ready as they could be given space and closing in time constraints. Walter had called this morning to warn him they were on to something. Walter was unsure of *who* they were, but someone or some group had been nosing about him for the last year, and were closing in on him. He was going, he was going to take his family and get out of harm's way. He said he hoped we would be able to meet up in the past but there was no guarantee they would, he wished my wife and I good luck, and strongly suggested we skedaddle out of time also, as our time was coming to an end also, he was sure about it. Robert trusted Walter with his life, had in fact had his and his wife's life changed and altered forever because of Walter. It was time to go.

A New Beginning

Robert and his wife sat with their dog in the middle of the M.B's, and backpacks in that tiny crowded little four foot by four foot space. The timer was set, he hugged his dog, and wife, gave her a kiss, and whispered in her ear, "I love you", as the room began to darken and a slight vertigo set upon him. He noticed a fading and a darkening of the room and his surroundings, the only clarity was with in that tiny space. Then all became complete and utter darkness, he felt his wife's body tense and he heard a slight whine from their dog...then outside of that four by four little tiny space some light was returning, it was a fading pulsing light...dark...light...dark. The light became steadier, and soon Robert and his wife, and dog, were looking upon a beautiful sight, the sky in parts was tinged a beautiful magenta color, and it looked there had been a slight rainfall. The air smelled so clean, no smoke no pollution, just fresh mountain air.

A little river, mountains in the distance, trees that were recognizable, the past, Robert was unsure how far they had traveled, he was unsure if they would ever find Walter, but he, his wife, and their dog, had a new life before them, and the worries of the future were left there, in the future.

Season one is beginning to wind down, I would urge any of you that are thinking about an entry to give it a shot, even if you do not make the final 16, it will let you become familiar with the game process and mechanics for season two. This has been a very fun and engaging challenge since it started back at the end of January, I and several others have had a lot of fun trying to think outside of our normal box, and come up with some creative content.
