The Lesson I Learned Today! Not All Memories Are Bad!
We have been going through some things in storage here on the homestead. We have two 40 ft containers that we have for storage and they are full and we decided since I am down for a few days with my knee, we needed to go through them and sort and get rid of stuff we do not need or do not use anymore.

We came across the black box from my deployment to Iraq. I was kinda worried about going through it as sometimes it brings back some memories that I do not want to remember, I thought about this and thought to myself there are some good things that I would want to remember too.

On my journey through this box, there were all the things I needed over there, like uniforms and some bonnie hats and the grandkids loved them, which come in real handy even now, Then I came across this all wrapped up and stuffed in one my boots so it would not get broken.

This was a copy of many blast walls around many things in Iraq! They placed them together to go around our living quarters and around our TOC's (Tactical Operation Centers). If you where there you will know what these are and what they were used for!

There was a civilian that was working on a new computer system for the Army there and the system was embedded with our unit. I got chosen as the "Man in green" for the system to work with him getting the system up and running and briefing generals on the progress and what we were doing. It felt good to be a little E-4 briefing generals and other officers on this system, this system was a life-saving system as we could search out cars and other things loaded with high explosive that would be used as an IED (Improvised Explosive Devices) then we could find them and safely destroy them before they hurt someone. It was also good at idenifying persons of interest. Before we left the country the civilian I was working with give me this as a thank you for helping with this system. I am still in contact with him to this day and he is a retired E-6. Some good things do come from bad things in life, that was the lesson I learned today! SO ALWAYS FORWARD!
