## Apfelbaum, (Pirus malus), Pomme, Apple ##
Gattung mit etwa 25-30 Arten als Bäume und Sträucher. Vorkommen hauptsächlich in der nördlichen gemäßigten Zone (Mitteleuropa, Nordamerika, auch Australien und Indien). Zahlreiche Kulturvarietäten und Hybriden, die schwer zu bestimmen sind.

### Herkunft ###
Die Holzart des Apfelbaums hat seine ursprüngliche Heimat in Westindien. der Baum ist heute über ganz Europa, mit Ausnahme von Nordeuropa, und in Westasien verbreitet. 

### Merkmale ###
Das feinporige Holz ist hart, dicht, oft drehwüchsig und schwer spaltbar. Das Holz des Apfelbaums schwindet stark und ist wenig dauerhaft. Es lässt sich gut bearbeiten, drehen, schnitzen, messern, beizen und polieren.

Nicht witterungsfest, es ist anfällig für Pilzbefall. Die Gefahr des Insektenbefalls kann beim Apfelbaum als gering bezeichnet werden.

### Verwendung ###
Apfelbaum wird genutzt für Furnier im Möbelbau, Spielzeugindustrie, Werkzeugfabrikation, Drechslerarbeiten und Schnitzereien, landwirtschaftliche Geräte, Messergriffe

## Apple Tree, (Pirus malus), Pomme, Apple
Genus of about 25-30 species as trees and shrubs. Occurrence mainly in the northern temperate zone (Central Europe, North America, also Australia and India). Numerous cultivars and hybrids that are difficult to determine.

### Origin ###
The wood of the apple tree has its original home in the West Indies. The tree is today widespread throughout Europe, with the exception of Northern Europe, and in West Asia.

### Characteristics ###
The fine-pored wood is hard, dense, often twisty and difficult to split. The wood of the apple tree fades strongly and is not very durable. It is easy to work, turn, carve, knive, stain and polish.

Not weatherproof, it is prone to fungal attack. The risk of insect infestation can be described as low in the apple tree.
