# Introduction
This week I want to analyse what is needed to keep competing on gold level when splinterlands start implementing a 9 month window for packs and 3 months no packs available.

As far as i known splinterlands did not mention what the plan is about the mini editions like DICE/Riftwatcher and ??? for rebellion. I assume this is also within the 12 months, so in my calculation I will take a investment period of 12 months.

# Costs to play in gold league
For this analyze I expect to have all cards on the maximum level for the gold league.

At this point, with the current market at low prices it's a already 4000$ to keep playing at gold. 
That would mean about 333$ per month.

These kind of promo cards will probably get me in a FOMO mode ending up me wanting them 🤣.

# Current situation
Every month i spend 100$-200$. This would not be enough to keep up with the 9 months pack rotations let alone all nice promos that will cause some FOMO.

Options: 
* Set expectation on silver level
* Pick only "good" cards that have good synergy 

Good quote I believe from Aggroed: you cannot own everything 😂. 
Also aftersound mention it in a stream, I want this also to be my mantra of 2023. Have fun buy what you can/willing to spend and not FOMO into everything.

# Opportunities to consider 
Personally I cannot wait till modern format is changed with rebellion mainly because I do not own many untamed cards and that causes me to lose many modern tournaments and brawls matches.

These numbers above scares me a bit, that I cannot keep up with the pace of investment to be able to play in gold.

There are still some opportunities like: 

##### 3 years plan
With a 3 year horizon (for me now 2 years) you might sell all chaos legion and riftwatchers and reinvest this in the then current modern decks. This kind of rotation should decrease the amount you need to invest every year. 
This only feasible if you want to continue to play only in modern.

What will happen with a set value when it moved from modern to wild, i expect the value will drop. <code>What do you think?</code>. 
We will see when untamed is move out of modern.

##### Generating extra income by monster flipping and blogging
Monster flipping is a method that can be used to grow your account. Currently I'm not doing this. Time consuming and need some extra cash for that. This is also risky when you pick wrong card and you are stuck with them. Blogging can also help to get an extra few packs/cards every week.

##### Renting out cards
The extra cards you own can be rented out/sold or be used for monster flipping.
Currently I choose to rent them out.

##### Liquidity pools
You can store your funds in liquidity pools. I have a small amount in DEC:SPS. To analyze what it is how it works and it give a nice ROI overall.
