Hello fellow nature lovers, I hope you have an excellent and blessed week. This is my entry for the [**Leaf Collector**](https://peakd.com/hive-174680/@hive-174680/we-passed-17000hp-thanks-to-everyone-new-contest). For my entry, I had planned to visit a beautiful countryside near the city, but for various reasons I couldn't go. It's a lovely place with an incredible view, abundant fruit and ornamental trees that create a beautiful landscape. Due to time constraints and several work commitments, the trip couldn't happen, even though I had planned it in advance. On the scheduled day, some unforeseen events arose at work that I had to attend to.
Although I couldn't go to the countryside, my friend and I visited a popular city park called Guaiquerí Park. Located in the city center between Arismendi and Aristiguieta streets, it's known for its numerous trees and a large, mostly grassy area. On the day of my visit, I went in the morning to take a walk and enjoy the scenery. We only walked a few kilometers and spent several minutes observing the trees, the grass, and some leaves on the ground. Several leaves caught my eye, and I collected a few. I took them home to identify them and make a craft project with them. While collecting the leaves, I thought about making a lion and using them for the mane. They were yellow, and I waited several days for them to turn brown, and then they were ready for the mane of the king of the jungle.

Hola amigos amante de la naturaleza, espero que tengan una excelente y bendecida semana, esta es mi entrada para el concurso [**Recolector de Hojas**](https://peakd.com/hive-174680/@hive-174680/we-passed-17000hp-thanks-to-everyone-new-contest), para mi participación tenía pensado visitar un hermoso campo cercano a la ciudad, pero por diversos motivos no pude ir, es un lugar encantador con una increíble vista, abundantes árboles frutales y ornamentales que crean un lindo paisaje, debido al factor tiempo y varios compromisos laborales el viaje no se pudo dar, aunque había planificado con antelación, el día pautado se presentaron unas eventualidades en el trabajo, que tuve que atender.
Aunque no pude ir al campo, en compañía de mi amiga visité un concurrido parque de la ciudad conocido como el parque Guaiquerí, este se ubica en el centro de la misma, entre las calles Arismendi y Aristiguieta, destaca por sus numerosos árboles y un amplio terreno, en su mayoría cubierto de grama, el día de mi visita, asistí en horas de la mañana, para hacer la caminata y observar el paisaje, durante la caminata recorrimos pocos kilómetros y nos quedamos varios minutos observando los árboles, la grama y algunas hojas que habían en el suelo, me llamaron la atención varias hojas y pude recoger algunas, la llevé a casa y para identificarlas y hacer un trabajo manual con ellas, mientras recogía las hojas pensé en hacer un león y colocar la melena con hojas, estaban de color amarillo, esperé varios días que cambiaran al color marrón y así ya estaban listas para la melena del rey de la selva.

The day was cool, the sky clear, and the sun's rays filtered through the branches. For nature lovers, this park is perfect, as in addition to the trees, it has huts, benches, exercise equipment, and spaces for recreation. Also, in the back, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Manzanares River and watch the squirrels move quickly among the trees. We tried to take pictures of these elusive little friends, but it was impossible; we just had to be content with watching them walk on the grass and climb the trees.
Compared to other visits I've made to the park, this time it boasted a beautiful green color, which could be appreciated both in the grass and the trees. Although a few trees are already changing their leaves, most of them still retain their lovely green hue. During our walk, we observed the thick green grass with small, light pink flowers, and one of the trees I could easily identify was the **Tamarind** [**Tamarindus indica**](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamarindus_indica) This is a citrus fruit tree, widely used to prepare juice, liqueur, and the famous tamarind paste.

El día estaba fresco, el cielo despejado y los rayos del sol se colaban entre las ramas, para los amantes de la naturaleza este parque es perfecto, pues además de los árboles, cuenta con chozas, bancos, máquinas para hacer ejercicios y espacios para la recreación, también en la parte posterior puedes disfrutar la hermosa vista del río Manzanares y ver las ardillas desplazarse rápidamente entre los árboles, intentamos tomar fotos a estas escurridizas amiguitas y fue imposible, solo nos coformamos con verlas caminar en la grama y subir a los árboles.
En comparación con otras visitaS que he hecho al parque, en esta oportunidad lucía un hermoso color verde, que se podía apreciar tanto en la grama como en los árboles, aunque hay pocos árboles que ya están cambiando las hojas, la mayoría de ellos las conservan con su lindo color verde, durante el recorrido pudimos observar la espesa grama de color verde con pequeñas flores rosado claro y uno de los árboles que pude identificar a simple vista fue el **Tamarindo**

Another tree I was able to identify with the help of the park ranger was the **Apamate** [**Tabebuia rosea**](https://colombia.inaturalist.org/taxa/209270-Tabebuia-rosea), which stands out for its pink flowers. Since the flowering period had already passed, I didn't identify it at the time.
The apamate is a deciduous tree that loses its leaves during flowering, at which time it is covered in showy pink flowers. Its leaves have a bright green upper surface and a dull green underside.
The apamate is highly valued for its ornamental beauty in parks, gardens, and avenues, and its wood is used in cabinetmaking and furniture making.
The leaves have medicinal uses: An infusion of the leaves is commonly used as a remedy to reduce fever. They are also known for their anti-inflammatory effects and are attributed with antioxidant, anticancer, and antimicrobial properties, helping to relieve the symptoms of respiratory illnesses.
The **Robinia hispida L.** [**Robinia hispida L.**](https://fichas.infojardin.com/arboles/robinia-hispida-acacia-rosa-acacia-rosada.htm), is another of the trees that abound in the park and are located on the walkway that is near the river, the leaves are made up of 12-15 oval and rounded leaflets, as for its medicinal use, according to the information of a gardening grandmother, its leaves are used to treat throat ailments, diarrhea and colds.
According to the park ranger, the **Almendrón** [**Terminalia catappa**](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminalia_catappa) is one of the few trees in Venezuela that exhibits significant changes in leaf color. In fact, he kindly gave me several leaves so I could observe the different color changes at home. They go from green to yellow, from yellow to orange and red, and then to brown. When I got home, I placed the leaves in a container, and I could see the change from green to yellow and from yellow to orange. Waiting for the color change to be more noticeable, hours passed, and I didn't see the change to red, only to brown. This kind young man showed us several photographs where the leaf color changes can be observed. The red looks beautiful. In the photograph I'm sharing, you can see some of the color changes in the leaves of this tree, which also produces an edible fruit.

Otro de los árboles que pude identificar con ayuda del guarda parques fue el **Apamate** [**Tabebuia rosea**](https://colombia.inaturalist.org/taxa/209270-Tabebuia-rosea), que resalta por sus flores rosa, como ya pasó el período de floración, no lo identifiqué al momento.
El apamate es un árbol caducifolio que pierde sus hojas durante la floración, momento en el que se cubre de vistosas flores rosadas, sus hojas tienen un haz (cara superior) verde brillante y un envés (cara inferior) verde opaco,
el apamate es muy valorado por su belleza ornamental en parques, jardines y avenidas, y su madera se emplea en la ebanistería y construcción de muebles.
Las hojas tienen usos medicinales: La infusión de las hojas se utiliza comúnmente como remedio para reducir la fiebre, tambien se conocen por sus efectos antiinflamatorios, se les atribuyen propiedades antioxidantes, anticancerígenas y antimicrobianas, ayuda a aliviar los síntomas de enfermedades respiratorias.
La **Acacia rosada** [**Robinia hispida L.**](https://fichas.infojardin.com/arboles/robinia-hispida-acacia-rosa-acacia-rosada.htm), es otro de los árboles que abunda en el parque y se ubican en la caminería que está cerca del río, las hojas están constituidas de 12-15 folíolos ovales y redondeados, en cuanto a su uso medicinal, según la información de una abuelita jardinera, sus hojas se emplean para tratar afecciones de la garganta, diarrea y refriados.
Según información del guardabosques el **Almendrón** [**Terminalia catappa**](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminalia_catappa), es uno de los pocos árboles en Venezuela que muestra cambios significativos en el color de sus hojas, de hecho amablemente me regaló varias hojas para que pudiera observar en casa los diferentes cambios de colores, pasa de verde a amarillo, de amarillo a naranja y rojo y posteriormente a marrón, al llegar a casa coloqué las hojas en un envase y si pude ver el cambio de verde a amarillo y de amarillo a naranja, por esperar que el cambio de color fuera más notable se pasaron las horas y no pude ver el cambio a rojo, sino directamente al color marrón, este amable chico nos mostró varias fotografías donde se observan los cambios de color de la hoja, el rojo se ve hermoso, en la fotografía que comparto se aprecian algunos de los cambios de colores en las hojas de este árbol que también produce un fruto comestible.

The [**Leaves**](https://cobcm.net/blogcobcm/2025/01/29/hojas-de-las-plantas-importancia/), are of great importance to plants, since they are the ones that carry out the process of photosynthesis, they are fundamental for the respiration of the plant, they also serve as protection and home for some living beings.
When comparing the leaves of **Robinia hispida L.** and **Tamarindus indica**, both grow in clusters. The former has larger leaves, while the latter, in addition to being smaller, has between 25 and 28 leaflets, according to my count. Regarding color, the tamarind changes color more quickly. As of today (November 8, 2025), its leaves have turned from green to brown, while the **Acacia** leaves remain green. I also observed that the acacia leaves detach easily from the rachis and retain their color, while the tamarind leaves remain attached to the rachis.
Once the **Mango** leaves [**Mangifera indica**](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mangifera_indica) were dry, I proceeded to paint a curious lion whose mane is made up of leaves from this tree. The first step was to outline the lion with graphite, then I used markers to paint the ears, face, and snout, and finally added the leaves to its mane. The mane is a little uneven, hehe; I started by cutting one end of the leaves and gluing them along the line of the face. This step was a bit difficult because the leaves don't hold much glue; you have to place them patiently, let them dry, and then stick. Then I had the idea to put enough glue along the line that borders the lion's face, and that's how I placed them. Not all of them stuck completely, and in some parts, I had to add extra leaves to cover the area. I continued placing the leaves until I completed the entire outline. I also added some small leaves at the top of the mane, and that's how a curious lion is finished, whose mane stands out for being made with leaves and colors that vary from light green, light brown, and beige to dark brown.

Las [**Hojas**](https://cobcm.net/blogcobcm/2025/01/29/hojas-de-las-plantas-importancia/), son de gran importancia para las plantas, ya que son ellas quienes realizan el proceso de fotosíntesis, son fundamentales para la respiración de la planta, tambien sirven de protección y hogar para algunos seres vivos.
Al comparar las hojas de **Robinia hispida L** y **Tamarindus indica**, ambas crecen en racimos, la primera tiene las hojas más grandes, mientras que la segunda además de ser más pequeña tiene entre 25 y 28 folíolos, según lo que pude contar, en cuanto al color, el Tamarindo cambia de color más rápido, al día de hoy (8 / 11 /25) sus hojas pasaron de verde a marrón, sin embargo las de **Acacia** se mantienen verdes, también pude observar que las hojas de Acacia se despegan fácilmente del raquis y conservan el color, las de tamarindo permanecen unidas al raquis.
Ya con las hojas de **Mango** [**Mangifera indica**](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mangifera_indica) secas, procedí a pintar un curioso león cuya melena está formada por hojas de este árbol, el primer paso fue marcar el león con grafito, luego utilicé marcadores, pinté las orejas el rostro, el hocico y finalmente agregué las hojas en su melena, la melena está un poco dispareja, je, je; inicie cortando un extremo de las hojas y lo pegué en la línea del rostro, este paso fue un tanto difícil porque las hojas no agarran mucho pegamento, hay que colocarlas con paciencia dejar que sequen y peguen, luego se me ocurrió una idea de colocar suficiente pegamentoen la línea que bordea el rostro del león y así las fui colocando, no todas pegaron completamente y en algunas partes tuve que colocar hojas adicionales para cubrir el área, seguí colocando las hojas hasta completar todo el contorno, también añadí algunas hojas pequeñas en la parte superior de la melena y así está terminado un curioso León cuya melena destaca por estar hecha con hojas y colores que varían desde el verde claro, marrón claro, beige, hasta el marrón oscuro.
