Alright... the grant application is handed in, and that particular headache is over and done with. Meanwhile, there was another different festival application and grant that had some expression of interest things that is due this weekend... but I think I might just give it a miss. I have more than enough things to do at the moment, and adding too many things will make my head explode. Plus, this is still only the first year of my ensemble... and I feel like we are hitting the ground running already!

I think I will also defer my first trimester of the Masters of Education for this year... I only have a single academic unit left (and the two practicals...) and I think I have more than enough on my plate with getting everything up to speed on the ensemble... there needs to be much more done on the website, communication, and all of that stuff.

Meanwhile, I just got confirmation that I will be continuing to teach at the university... which is a nice bonus, and good prestige thing... plus, it is a nice opportunity to corrupt the students with my form and style on music! Add to that, some interest from other lecturers to play together and possibly have an Early Music workshop/festival... and we also managed to secure an additional concert for my ensemble! Not bad for a morning's worth of sitting in an academic meeting where I feel like I only understood about half of what was being talked about!

So, now it sort of gets to the fun part... programming a concert. Well, if I have to be perfectly honest... it is actually quite a great deal harder than I thought. Most of the time, someone else is doing the programming... and I just step in and play! But constructing a program that has a flow and development... and contrast. Sigh, it is a great deal harder than it sounds... Plus, I have led the series with a local contingent... and so, I'm not 100 percent sure how hard I can push them!

Ah well, I think that I have settled on the program now... I have done some full ensemble (Baroque trio sonata) pieces, a couple of "party" pieces, a violin duo, a harpsichord solo, and also a violin sonata. So... between everything in there, I think it is a sort of interesting concert... even if there isn't really a coherent theme that runs through it all. I will have to talk during the concert to help bind it all together, and I have done that more than often enough in the past... and I have sort of managed to hold it all together like that.... and when I look at some of the themed concerts that I have played in before... they still seem a bit all over the place as well!

For me, I don't really think that the audience finds too much variety and interest in having different aspects of a theme... Personally, I prefer to switch it up in character and types of instruments playing... but at the moment, I am a little bit budget constrained, and so I will often have to make do with what I have. Not perfect in terms of being able to switch in and out players from a large pool in a concert... but I'm sure that it will work! I hope...
