One of the nicest (and most terrifying...) things about having your own place is the fact that you are responsible for any little fixes and changes that you make. And I'm pretty much a noob with all of this stuff... but I do like learning, even if I'm a little bit on the incompetent end of things... But I do get up to little tweaks. And I've got an extended family of tradies who can rescue me whilst giggling their arses off about my sheer cluelessness!

So, a simple fix this time... one of the screws for the kitchen draws seemed to no longer be grabbing the handle... and so, I figured... how hard could it be to get a new screw and replace it? Well... probably easier than I ended up making it...

So, first mission... get a screw... and it turns out that I had NO IDEA what the hell screw I was after... different sizes and names... in the end, I just bought a new handle that was similar, but had two included screws! Trust me... I was looking at screws for ages... and I only needed one... not a pack of a hundred!

... and yes, I now know that there is a screw tester board that I SHOULD HAVE used.... 

So, this is my introduction to snap-off screws! Weird... I'd never know that these existed... so, using my trust IKEA kit... I was turning and bending and snapping... and I finally got it to work, after I found a second set of pliers... plus a YouTube tutorial on how to actually break these things...

... and I figured, well... I could just reuse the old handle, so that we didn't have a different handle for one drawer... and I screwed it in, and it sort of got stuck... but the screw wasn't fully in yet, so I applied more force and screwed it in harder... and the bloody screw SNAPPED off IN the handle! ARHGHGHGGHGHGHGHGGH.... which meant that there was one screw IN the handle... with a bit that was too short... so, the old handle was useless... and I was one screw short of attaching the new handle. I had left the OTHER GOOD old screw at the hardware store when I was rifling through the handles. 

So, back to the hardware store to get a new SINGLE screw... 

... and when I got there, I found the OLD screw that I had taken for reference! WIN!... and someone had opened up lots of handle packets and scattered the associated screws all around. Hmmmmm... dodgy, they probably only needed a single screw or the handles... but that is a sort of dickish thing to do. But... seeing as there were lots of loose new screws with no handle, I picked up a couple as backup.

... and TADA!!! New Handle held securely in... does it look great... well, not really, but it works and is functional.... and nothing burnt down and the house is still standing...  So, I would mark that up as win for me!
