•	Before using your eye drop administered or given to you by your optometrist or ophthalmologist, you should ensure that you have a clean hands to avoid contaminating the bottle or content so you should wash your hands.
•	The next thing to do is to inspect the bottle carefully to ensure that there hasn’t been any crack whatsoever around it especially around the tip of the dropper.
•	Upon the use of the eye drop do not touch your eye with the tip of the dropper, if there is any infection on the eye you would have ended up contaminating the whole solution or the dropper.
•	The lower lid should be pulled down with the index finger whiles tilting the head back, this will create more room or space for the drop to settle and work well.
•	The dropper should come as close to the eye as possible before dropping the solution on the eye, however; it must not touch the eye.
•	Whiles look up a gently squeeze for a single drop to fall on the eye is enough, more drops are most often a waste of the solution as they would drain away.
•	After the drop it is good for patient to close the eye for about a minute or two with the head tilted down, the lids should not be forcefully shut neither should there be lots of blinking, this will allow the drug to settle well and have most effect.
•	It is good to place a finger on the tear duct close to the nose to prevent all the solution from draining away quickly from the eye. Excess liquid on the face should be wiped with a tissue.
•	Patients with more than an eye drop to be at a go should wait for about 5 minutes after the initial drop before going on to the next one.
•	Replace the cap, tighten it, keep it in a cool dry place preferably away from children and wash your hands to remove any medication.
