Rose I up early, before the morning sun had shown bright-faced the newly risen day,
and knelt I there before my bed, and bowed my head in quiet reverence' way.

I met my Father there, in my secret closet there I spoke, and He to me,
as I knelt in worship all-consuming, a raindrop in an endless sea.

I brought before Him supplication, to grant to me a contrite heart.
Holy Father, blessing me, keep my feet upon Your way, that I may not depart.

I spoke to Him my intercession, that He might bless all men.
Show them all Your Life and Light, and by Your Spirit lead them in.

I praised Him there and gave Him thanks, for all in grace and goodness done.
And before I stood to meet the day, I thanked Him for His Son...
