A little while ago i did a post on stealing animals from abusive or neglectful situations. I always attempt to talk to the owner if it is more neglectful and open their eyes to their misdoings but alot of the time it does nothing to help the animal in question and that's really all i care about, making their life better. I promised i would write a post with some of the animals I/ my family has rescued so here it is. I'll start with the most recent. This is a staffy I found while working on a school, he was in the yard of one of the neighbors we were working for. He cried almost non-stop, in 4 days i never saw anyone do anything but give him food, no pats, no exercise no love in general. The family he belonged to had a large yard, well manicured plenty of space, but this poor guy was blocked off in a tiny square of overgrown grass with no toys minimal shelter and no attention. When i was there it was middle of winter, most mornings were between 0-2 degrees Celsius and as a staffy he has very short fur so not much protection from the elements. He was the sweetest little thing, every day i would spend as much time as possible giving him pats and attention. as much as i could given i still had a job to do. I waned to speak to the owner and know why he was locked up as such but they were never home while i was there. Another Builder on the site told me he had been in that squared off area for months and no one ever played with him so it was then i decided he would be finding a better home. 3 weeks after i finished the job i went back in the dead of night and snatched him up, put him in my car and took him to an animal shelter i used to volunteer for. No-kill shelter and i was kept updated on his status. It only took 10 days for him to find a new loving home, they had a staffy already so they knew what was required of the breed, they had plenty of time and space for him and from what i know now he is happier than ever. no more crying every day or suffering in the cold. This cute little fella i found in a dilapidated cage in another house i worked for, he was a little cutie. Very timid but i guess guinea pigs always are. The kids had gotten him while they were small and forgotten about him, he never got attention and his water and food were empty when i got there. I asked our client about him and they said "take him we dont want him" As a renter i cant really take in many pets but i did know a family who had guinea pigs already so i spoke to them and they said they would be happy to take him and look after him. He recently passed away from natural causes :( but he got to live his last few years happy and well fed with other guinea pigs for company. Some people may already have seen/know my own rescue cat Bellatrix (aptly named after Bellatrix lestrange from harry potter, mostly cos shes a fkn weird cat lol. We found Bellatrix living on the street/in a local park, she was clearly someones abandoned pet, so many people get kittens and puppys just to ditch them when they're not cute anymore and we feel like this may be what had happened to her. We took her to a vet but no microchip or identification so we took her to a shelter close by, they desexed vaccinated and wormed her and i couldn't help but take her home to live with me. She is the biggest softy ever, a big sook who crys and meows for attention, she spoons under the blanket with me at night and sleeps with me from when i go to bed till i wake up. The vet informed us she had already had a litter of kittens and she was approx 1 year old when we found her, we never found the kittens but im guessing she was used to breed a litter and then dumped. Honestly not just because shes mine but you will find it hard to find asweeter more loving little cat than her and im so glad she ended up with me. I love her very much :) This is a goat i found on a farm, she had been tied up for quite a long time and was very shy. She had been caught in victorian bushfires from a few years back and had still been tied while they burned through the property she was on. Her metal collar had become so hot it had burnt her skin and left a permanent scar though you cant really see it in the pictures. She wasn't necessarily neglected but one of her owners had died and the old man was struggling to care for all the animals alone so we found her a new home together where she could get the attention she deserves. She still lives happily in a field in rural victoria, eating hay and grass to her hearts desire. There are countless more animals that i have helped rehome, whether through shelters or personally but i dont have pictures of many of them. i thought i had more but my old computer must of had most of them so i guess thats it for now. Here are some pictures of other animals i have found whether on the street having escaped from home or been scared from their natural environment and we helped get them back to nature. A cute little possum that was scared from a tree by a cat He bit me at first but after i wrapped him in the jumper he went straight to sleep until nighttime and then scampered back into his tree :) A pupper we found wandering happily down the road He stayed the night with us and was home the next day, had gotten out of a broken fence but since i build fences i fixed it for them too and no more escapes :P This is as some people know, my mums saltwater crocodile. He was rescued from a leather farm in Darwin and now happily ( if thats possible for a croc) spends his days basking in the sun and swimming around his pol in rural Victoria. This cute little guy i found running around the street outside my house and surprisingly enough he came to me when i put my hand out. He also bit me but what can ya do. took him to the vet and they found his owner the next day, she called to say thank you and he was home safe :) There are more but i wont bore you with my animals anymore :) They make me so happy and i hate seeing them suffer, it breaks my heart when i hear stories about it. Please remember if you get an animal you get them for life They will be a small part of your life but you will be all of theirs so make it a good one and make them happy. Thank you for reading.
