.jpg)
The Next Evolution Of Hive
With the introduction of LeoFinance Alpha version of [Threads](https://leofinance.io/threads) (aka crypt twitter) some interesting topics have starting coming up about Hive and layer two tokens. Right now the only way to get a layer two token on the hive blockchain is by creating it on hive-engine though what is known as the BEE token. There's been increasing calls for Hive devs to start to really develop the blockchain to be more capable to support layer two tokens itself and smart contracts. Where we are at on that I have no idea and honestly question how much work the primary devs for hive actully do to be honest. (Sorry but not sorry) Either it's a lack of communication or they just really are not doing much. In any case I firmly believe and now support layer two projects/tokens over hive and I noticed my shift in this over the last year and it's only grown. ### Hive as a Resource Mainly hive is now a resource token which is used for people to be able to do transactions and actions on the hive blockchain. However applications are starting to grow on hive and I see a increasingly large focus of hive turning more and more into a resource token then anything else. If you want to run an application on Hive you're going to need a decent chunk of hive to back it up. We saw this clearly during the last bull run when [Splinterlands](https://splinterlands.com?ref=bitcoinflood) grabbed up a large share of Hive in order to process all of their new users and json actions. We are also seeing this with other front end applications such as [PeakD](https://peakd.com/register?ref=bitcoinflood) and LeoFinance as their onboarding increases and larger applications that need the extra power on the hive blockchain. A lot of times some Hive has to be delegated out to all new users so they can interact on the blockchain themselves. Most platforms still delegate out 10 hive per user and I'm here to tell you that's not really enough. For someone to really make a decent amount of posts and not run into issues it's roughly 25-50 hive powered up that's needed these days and it's most likely going to keep increasing. ### Hive As An Investor As an investor one of the best things I personally feel Hive has going for it over other blockchains is the ability to delegate powered up hive to projects. But you can also delegate all current layer 2 tokens as well from hive-engine which I feel is ground breaking. Not only do you remain in full control of your assets for a huge plus to security but you also are in full control about when and where you want to delegate and support. If this could some how be applied to defi and other various applications which are constantly hammered with hacks and flaws I feel it would bump security of everything to a whole new level and hive could be at the forefront of it. The other benefit is I see more places soon returning to the roots of what crypto is suppose to be. The recent SEC crack down as of right now is actully a major bull IMO. The reason why is the SEC is cracking down on companies that take your tokens, stake them for you and then give you a percent of the staking interest back to you. This has greatly centralized a lot of tokens into a few major companies but with this crack down it means these companies would no longer be allowed to do this because when you think about it it's pretty much a security at that point. You're giving "money" in this case tokens to a company for them to use and earn a return on in which they collect a profit and give you a interest on it. I firmly would agree that this practice should be stopped and in a very real way it is in fact a unregistered security at that point. However that means people can stake their own tokens for the blockchain (as it should be) and remain in full control and make the choices they want to earn interest on their tokens. This is why I feel the HIVE token and even current layer 2 tokens are ahead of the game right now. I still believe we are a few years away from that fully being a thing but I'm seeing a increase pressure towards this and it's what I'm currently building up for and planning for in the future.
