DISCLAIMER: PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK. If you have large monetary values controlled by your private keys, you should really know what you are doing before attempting to follow the instructions in this guide. Even though code is open source, by downloading pre-compiled executable files, you may still be vulnerable to malware. Even if you have compiled the code yourself, there may still be attack vectors open, such as key loggers on your computer. We are providing a tutorial of two local lite wallets (Greymass and Simpleos) with block producer voting functionality, that have been approved by the community. Greymass and Simpleos is a local tool that you download to your private computer. The code is open source. This solution is considered safer than voting on a website and prevents problems with phishing. In this article we will take you step by step through the voting process. ## Why vote - Taking an active part in EOS ecosystem .jpg) Voting allows you as a tolkenholder to participate in the long term development of the EOS ecosystem. It's important to do some research on the different block producers that you think will help EOS grow as a platform. The diversity of Block Producers means that each one is specializing and contributing in different ways to the EOS community. It is also important to remember that each Block Producer vote is a 1:30 Approval vote. This means that you can give all your votes to one Block Producer or spread your approval vote to include 30 producers that you value. Spread your vote to 30 BPS to secure the health of the chain. Make sure that you vote for organisations that you trust and follow. See our steemit post for more information. https://steemit.com/eos/@bitspace/eos-block-producer-reviews-by-community-and-bps ## How to vote with Greymass Here is is a short and secure way to cast your vote on EOS using Greymass. Make sure you have your private key safe and secure. 1. Open Greymass EOS voter locally on your computer 2. Connect to a secure api. We recommended the BitSpace API. This is not casting a vote or recommendation for us it is merely a connection point to the EOS chain.https://api.eos.bitspace.no More options from other BP’s are available here. https://github.com/greymass/eos-voter/blob/master/nodes.md 3. Enter your account information, copy your private key to match with your public key. Danger! Make sure you are in a secure environment and that nobody is watching you type in your private key. 5. Vote for your trusted block producers (pick 30). Feel free to vote for us :) 6. Confirm your votes ## How to vote using simpleos 1. Download SimplEOS for your computer. It currently supports MAC, Windows and Linux. https://github.com/eosrio/simpleos/releases 2. Install and open Simpleos EOS voter locally on your computer. Copy in your public key OR import your existing key and or import your exodus wallet. 3. Part 1: Enter your account information - Make sure nobody is standing behind you or watching. Part 4: Set a lock screen (additional security measure) https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmX1Q8qy66xTSdbkDrTbrfbUw6QUstk7rKR9V4swQ6KSkj/Screen%20Shot%202018-06-27%20at%2012.46.06.png 4.Feel free to vote for us :) 5. Spread your votes to your 30 trusted Block Producers. 6. Type in your wallet password and confirm your votes. ## Scatter + Eosportal.io (Less secure) Scatter is an extension for Google Chrome and Firefox. Eosportal is a community voting portal that utilizes scatter to securely interact with the voting portal without requiring that people type in their private on the website. BitSpace has supported the development of eosportal.io, but this method is still less secure than command line voting or using a local wallet, as the code for both of these tools have not yet been fully audited. Scatter is a web interface used to connect securely to the EOS blockchain. Scatter protects your private keys when you use external voting portals. It is the most secure voting solution and the only one audited by external sources. In order to use this tool, you will have to download the latest EOS repository code and compile it locally on your computer. Yes, it is not the most user friendly method, but by far the most secure. Although it requires a certain level of technical know-how, we strongly recommend that you cast your approval vote using this tool: https://steemit.com/eosio/@chitty/eos-how-to-vote-for-bp-candidates-on-cleos # Warning! External voting portals (BE VERY CAREFUL) There are numerous voting portals being developed, and even more to be announced in the coming days. We want to reiterate that external portals are not the most secure way to vote, especially when we do not know who is behind them and if their code has been properly vetted. All good portals should use Https and have secure connections. Make sure to carefully read the url of the voting portal site you are entering. Watch out for phishing sites. Only use methods recommended by your trusted block producers. Do not type your private keys on unsecure or unvalidated websites. # Your private key is precious to you! # WARNING: Giving away your private keys to any website, secure or not, is very risky, and may result in that website or a malicious third party stealing all your tokens. Therefore, we strongly recommend against it. ## DISCLAIMER: PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.
