Here comes a little science and the words that I would like to say to thank my teacher/supervisor!! 我的博士論文是關於抗藥性細菌和新型抗生素(還是很初步的,別存太大希望可以很快解決抗藥性細菌的問題) My PhD thesis was about antibiotics resistant in bacteria and discovery of a new antibiotics (things are quite preliminary, so don't put too much hope in thinking there can be a quick cure) 抗生素耐藥性在抗生素發現後不久就成了醫學界面一大問題,細菌只須通過基因突變來發展抗生素的抗藥性。在你身體上和環境中有數百萬到數万億的細菌;這個巨大的樣本數量將為抗生素耐藥性的隨機突變提供了很大的基數。由於有這大量的細菌,其中一些會發展出“正確”的抗藥物方式。自然選擇是在特定環境中選擇最適合的生物,並允許這些生物繁殖。所以在有抗生素的情況下,這些耐藥細菌將會有更多機會繁殖,被選擇在這種環境中茁壯成長。 Antibiotic resistance have been an issue in the medical community soon after the discovery of antibiotics, bacteria develop resistance to the antibiotics simply by gene mutations. There are millions to trillions of bacteria on you as well as in the environment; this vast sample number will provide the base number for the development of antibiotic resistant by simple random mutation. Because of the large amount of bacteria present, some of them will develop the “right” way to resist the drug. Natural selection is the selecting of the best fitting organism in the given environment and allows those organisms to thrive. So in the presence of antibiotics, those resistant bacteria will get to reproduce, selected to thrive in that environment. 這就是為什麼我們人類和細菌之間有一場軍事競賽,我們正在競賽開發新的抗生素,他們正在爭取開發抵抗我們新抗生素的突變。過去,由於抗生素使用量不正確路線重確,抗生素研究和開發的停止,我們過去已經於戰爭中落後。幸運的是,世界開始意識到這個問題,更多的人回到抗生素研發過程。 This is why there is an arms race between us human and the bacteria, we are racing to develop new antibiotics, why they are racing to develop mutations that resist our new antibiotics. We have lost the war in the past due to poor usage of antibiotics in the past and halt of antibiotics research and developments. Luckily the world starts to realize this problem and more people are back to antibiotics research and development process. 我的導師在博士學位方面幫助了我很 多,也給了我很大的自由探索不同的東西。這張卡是為了包括我博士課程的大部分內容。我處理多重耐藥性細菌,挖掘/了解這些細菌,試圖獲得可能破壞它們的新化學物質。所以希望有一天我們可以在軍事競賽中獲勝。 My supervisor put great efforts in helping me in my PhD, and also gave me great degree of freedom to explore different things. This card is drawn to include most aspect of my PhD project. Me dealing with multidrug resistant bacteria, digging/ drilling to know more about those bacteria at the same time, trying to get new chemicals that could destroy them.
