One man’s laziness is another man’s opportunity. That’s what I often think when a collector comes in to offload a chunk of Funko Pops…or to be honest, most collectibles that we purchase. In this situation, it’s my shop Conquest Comics’s opportunity, and I’m happy to say these opportunities are delicious. What I mean by my statement above is this…Most of the times when folks come in to offload their collection, they just want the path of least resistance. That usually means bulking them off to let US deal with breaking em up. I ALWAYS break down the situation for the seller as I let them know that taking the time and effort to move them online is the situation that will land them the most cash in their pockets. Unfortunately, with that comes a world of time, effort, and aggravation. Answering stupid messages, dealing with the occasional scammer, packing supplies and shipping, taking extra photos for those super picky collectors, and the most important one of all in my opinion…the time it consumes. There is a lot that goes into moving a collection. The end benefits will be apparent, but the journey to arrive there often sucks. So much so that most folks forgo the fantasy of riches just to save themselves the headaches of moving their coveted collectibles online. They bulk it out…collect their chunk of moolah…and now have all that time, effort, and energy to (hopefully) put into other more important things in their lives…and that just what happened yesterday. So today, I’ll share with you this small batch of 72 individual Funko Pops that we acquired minutes before closing yesterday. The gentleman entered with a few boxes and immediately told me that he just doesn’t want them anymore. I asked if there were any “grail pieces”, and he removed 4 specific Pops. The rest he said, we’re all “regular pops”. Currently at Conquest, we have over 8000 different Pops on the sales floor, and another 12,000 plus in the back room…so the last thing I honestly need these days is more random lower tiered Pops. What I mean by that is commons, and lower priced store exclusives. That stuff is cool and I love it, but I’m so stocked up on those these days and we get people just like this gentleman coming in several times a week…that we just don’t overpay for this caliber of product. For this type of collection, we have a range of what we pay and it’s based on a “per piece” basis. Now this number is going to make Funko Funatics such as @deadspace vomit…but we typically land in the $3-$5 range per pop. That’s it. We just have too many of these types of collections coming in that we don’t have to overpay and in all honesty…it’s simply not worth me shelling out more as the supply of this caliber of stuff walking through our doors is practically endless. So I give the gent the pitch and tell him we will be falling in that realm for the bulk lot of 72 boxed pieces. I didn’t even unpack them to look and see what was included as there was no need to. He said that number was fine and we agreed upon $250 bucks which breaks down to $3.47 a Pop. Not too shabby! We did try to reach a deal on the 4 better pieces but could not come to a number that made sense for both of us. The rough value of the 4 he held back was around $500 bucks, and he wanted…wait for it…$500 bucks. I offered 50% of that at $250 but he was firm in his decision to hang onto those. Stinks too as I would have loved to get that original MMPR White Ranger…but alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Hope he’s able to move em online for a decent chunk of change…or he will be back in a couple of weeks to offload em after realizing that selling em online requires some effort. Good luck brother! After unboxing the lot which consisted of three 6 inch scale, two 2-packs, and 68 singles…we did a quick scan of the floor and we actually needed 56 of the 72 total!!! Score! So today when I open the shop, I’ll price these all up for the vultures to attack. These will mostly range from $13-$25 bucks a pop on the sales floor with a few hidden “gems”…meaning at the worst case scenario, I’ll 4x my investment. Ultimately after some time, it’ll probably be closer to 5 or 6x though. I’ll take these types of buys any day!!! Now I gotta get to work. Peace out homies! Blewitt
