In this post, we will take a quick look at the cruel sethropod. This is a monster I did not use very much early on in chaos legion but have rotated in quite frequently in certain matchups now that I have him up to level 3. Let us examine the monster first and then look at a battle showing it's superiority for it's mana cost.

Cruel Sethropod

The crawfish like creature is a meat shield in all intent and purpose during most rulesets especially at levels one and two. In melee only or no magic matchups, this card can be a great tank to delay your opponent while you pick off their back line. In the matchup you will see below, the sethropod is also great in weak magic matchups where shields bring his health pool up to seven at level three. The card is pretty much maxed out at that level in my opinion as it does not gain any abilities as it levels up. I would love to see this monster buffed with a shield or void armor at gold level to make it more useful for higher level players. Now that we have gone through the monster, let us go through a battle showing off the sethropod. Link to the full battle is here

Pre-match analysis

Both myself and my enemy shielded up in this matchup with the weak magic ruleset. We both also directed all our attacks at one enemy except for his harpy which was another good strategy given the divine shield ruleset. The sethropod comes out with 10 hit points at the start of the match with kelya and venari wavesmith's shield buffs. This is really great value for a three mana cost creature.

Round 1

In round 1, everything goes as planned for me. My sethropod takes a ton of damage from my opponent and then gets resurrected by my river hellondale to gain another seven hit points. 17 hits it takes to bring that thing down! I am able to eliminate his scrapper with ease and now can work on his damage dealers. The arbilist will be my biggest problem but luck is on my side with a few key misses we will see happen.

Round 2

Round 2 finishes with my sethropod finally going down but I am able to eliminate another one of his damage dealers. Still no misses to this point but a key turn of events comes in round 3.

Round 3

The miss finally comes on my wave runner. This keeps him alive to finish off the time mage and improve my chances of more misses in the future. The magic damage dealers in the back continue to widdle away at my opponent and show why magic is always superior to other attacks given the 100% hit chance.

Round 4

Another miss on my wavesmith and that is pretty much the match. To add insult to injury, the arbilist missed three more times on my wavesmith. With ranged attacks in the first position my opponent cannot attack and so I finish him off with my hellondale in round 8.

Splintertools had my win rate at around 65% for this matchup showing the little bit of RNG on my side. I think the sethropod was really the key taking so many hits before dying off. Pairing him with the wavemsith and hellondale is really a great trio given the ruleset and extra shields.

I hope you all enjoyed this battle challenge showing off the cruel sethropod and consider upgrading him to at least level three to use in little league matchups and other low mana matches.
