The social media in Nigeria has been buzzing for the past 24 hours about a particular post made by a Tonye Cole about a young man demanding his window seat from Prof Wole Soyinka. Lots of arguments from different schools of thought as stated below;

* The young man was wrong, rude and uncouth to have asked the elderly man stand up for him.
* The young man was not wrong to have asked for his seat.
* The youngman is right to have asked for his seat but considering the caliber of person there, he shouldn't have.

#### About Africa and age disparity
Africans believe that no matter what an elder does, he is right. The Yorubas have a saying, "agba dida, omode laa fiin re je" (becoming old is to cheat the younger one). This is the common ground around here and in most homes and communities, you hardly find elders apologizing for wronging someone younger, just because they are older.

### My take.

The airline was at fault to have distorted the seating arrangements. In a case where this happened already, they should have explained the situation of things to the young man and not just assume he'd consider the age and or caliber of the occupant of **his seat**. Whether he decides to leave the seat or not then becomes a choice the man has to make, on his own, not imposed by culture or a group people.


##### On a lighter note....
A twitter user, @tosinodunfa, claims to be the young man in the story. Also claims to have a PhD from the university of Mannittawwiw, which does not exist.
