0.000 HBDCLOUDY DAY AT THE END OF MAY
The photographs shown in this post were taken on the 30th of May 2020, sorted and edited a couple of days later, and then somehow forgotten in a folder named CLOUDY DAY AT THE END OF MAY. Last evening, I started exploring the old folders with photographs ready to be published in search of something not too long and demanding, but at the same time not too short & lazy either. This relaxed day at the end of May looked just right. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmTt8xgw1sUh2pAuh8jHckfoQsD1SBrB6Gc8DDP2m5WHTn/img_9630i31i32i33_cetiroshtro.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmTt8xgw1sUh2pAuh8jHckfoQsD1SBrB6Gc8DDP2m5WHTn/img_9630i31i32i33_cetiroshtro.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) I drove to the central part of Istra. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmUNLZnQkpoqzh4c9JK3uq5TLw7yZvZo5spwdF4oUH3sG6/melishuma.gif"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmUNLZnQkpoqzh4c9JK3uq5TLw7yZvZo5spwdF4oUH3sG6/melishuma.gif"></a> (Enlargeable) A friend was there with me. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmPEKkUFqnp2Je5jdTMhzXZ2E89Eqv3pTBXDPAnH5vmkDM/img_9650i51i52i53_cetiroshtro.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmPEKkUFqnp2Je5jdTMhzXZ2E89Eqv3pTBXDPAnH5vmkDM/img_9650i51i52i53_cetiroshtro.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) We stopped a couple of times along the road. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmd4zHbDW4zUVenwnQr3a2QaAKCnY3FkgG7gxcj63Mday2/img_9629i72i18i37i45i51_sestoshtro.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmd4zHbDW4zUVenwnQr3a2QaAKCnY3FkgG7gxcj63Mday2/img_9629i72i18i37i45i51_sestoshtro.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) I photographed some plants, some insects, a bit of landscape, and various scenes and details along the road. On the way back home we encountered a train. I took plenty of photographs and made a GIF out of them. Two GIFs, to be more precise. But this was near the end of the journey. Let's start from the beginning. The first stop was in a place that looks like an abandoned stone quarry. On the road to Motovun. Five or six kilometers from the city of Pazin. About seventy kilometers from where I live. These Erigeron annuus flowers were photographed there. I found a couple of insects on those flowers. Here you can see the Agapanthia cardui, a beetle from the Cerambycidae family. This is the Oedemera flavipes beetle. The family is Oedemeridae. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmYVvcTuHBBe4hDnTDW3vM9KgHCDauFfsaM5B9NS7mgZMZ/img_9661_izhoshtreno.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmYVvcTuHBBe4hDnTDW3vM9KgHCDauFfsaM5B9NS7mgZMZ/img_9661_izhoshtreno.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) In this enlargeable photograph, you can see a well-camouflaged nymph of the Tettigonia viridissima bushcricket. Erigeron annuus, commonly known as the annual fleabane or daisy fleabane, is native to North and Central America. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmUMkFWMx56CkDq1SRWmGCNnLgfEa6hnPum79XqKgkYc2X/img_9685_izhoshtreno.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmUMkFWMx56CkDq1SRWmGCNnLgfEa6hnPum79XqKgkYc2X/img_9685_izhoshtreno.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) In Europe, is present since the end of the 17th century. It's a resilient pioneer species that often colonizes abandoned fields, vacant lots, roadsides, railways, and waste areas. Across the road from the abandoned quarry ... <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQma4pFUvrRbDV3fxKKcppRm9isd5TSAiZUUZuTQRJbMsQj/img_9645_izhoshtreno.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQma4pFUvrRbDV3fxKKcppRm9isd5TSAiZUUZuTQRJbMsQj/img_9645_izhoshtreno.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) ... I noticed a weird, creepy billboard. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmeTd2rKpKLqGF52kNdAmFDf7Tpe7sHyZXAyMsxXV5RZwN/img_9640i42i48i49_cetiroshtro.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmeTd2rKpKLqGF52kNdAmFDf7Tpe7sHyZXAyMsxXV5RZwN/img_9640i42i48i49_cetiroshtro.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) It stated: THEY BETTER FOCUS ON THEIR FAMILIES INSTEAD OF THEIR CAREERS. Later, on the Internet, I found out that this was part of a thought-provoking campaign against that kind of suffocatingly primitive patriarchal ideas, but at first sight, it didn't look like that. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmbnLqomWbUk6jVf2WPEDYeDL7D9auRqRFHyDQ2UH4iVB9/img_9638_izhoshtreno.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmbnLqomWbUk6jVf2WPEDYeDL7D9auRqRFHyDQ2UH4iVB9/img_9638_izhoshtreno.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) Knowing the state of mind of a good chunk of the Croatian population, wouldn't be very surprising to see something like this displayed as a genuine piece of shitty conservative propaganda. Back on the other side of the road ... ... I found a butterfly. Its blue wings were shining in the grass. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmXusbthPKej3DjbLbgGgYrPCPbZ77MfTjz2s8fWBss4RJ/img_9657_izhoshtreno.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmXusbthPKej3DjbLbgGgYrPCPbZ77MfTjz2s8fWBss4RJ/img_9657_izhoshtreno.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) This is the Polyommatus bellargus, commonly known as the adonis blue. The family is Lycaenidae. I took a couple of macro shots, and then ... ... we drove away. The next stop was in the woods. Always in the area around the city of Pazin. About twenty kilometers from the place that was (or just resembled) an abandoned stone quarry. A bit of rain fell during that short drive ... ... so I found some lovely droplets when we entered the forest. Down on the ground, on the thick carpet made of fallen leaves, I saw a beetle that I rarely encounter. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmfTxh7DxTDKSSv3NU4cPz8G3JLHg19XixqovNuYPUkECx/img_9716_izhoshtreno.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmfTxh7DxTDKSSv3NU4cPz8G3JLHg19XixqovNuYPUkECx/img_9716_izhoshtreno.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) This is the Thanasimus formicarius, a species from the Cleridae family. The adults usually overwinter at the base of conifers. In the springtime, they emerge and fly to reach the lower parts of the trunks where they can hunt the bark beetles. The females lay eggs in the crevices of the bark. The larvae feed mostly on bark beetle larvae, eggs, and pupae. But they will also eat any other small insect found under the bark. When it comes time to undergo the pupation stage, they do it under the bark. With their shape, size, and coloration, the adults mimic the Mutilla quinquemaculata velvet ants that can be found in the same area. These ant-like wasps are quite famous for their painful sting. In the following photograph ... ... you can take a look at the Mutilla quinquemaculata wasp, photographed on the beach a couple of kilometers from my hometown. This is the female. Only females have this ant-like appearance. The males have wings and look considerably different. The photograph was taken in June of 2021. I saw quite a few spiders on that walk through the woods. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmZwtZeBbZVkvR892TsyauZSoppLLShMBS5v7b8cEUxmup/img_9733_izhoshtreno.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmZwtZeBbZVkvR892TsyauZSoppLLShMBS5v7b8cEUxmup/img_9733_izhoshtreno.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) They were running all around the leaf litter. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmUsc3XYc187bAfneQSAKu84p3Gxuk6AeUB3LBbVgKWdj3/img_9726_izhoshtreno.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmUsc3XYc187bAfneQSAKu84p3Gxuk6AeUB3LBbVgKWdj3/img_9726_izhoshtreno.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) The spiders were very fast and agile. And many of them were caring cocoons. Which means that many of those spiders were females. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmQ1bjNPziBN6LKU1SeciSjrs1RJY3MqWF7hzuAQBHuYym/img_9741_izhoshtreno.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmQ1bjNPziBN6LKU1SeciSjrs1RJY3MqWF7hzuAQBHuYym/img_9741_izhoshtreno.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) Can't tell you the exact species, but the family is definitively Lycosidae, and I'm pretty sure that the genus is Pardosa. I photographed a few more droplets ... <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmWewLRomeArWABMsjvaVyoEFwqBZACZuV1TAZLzPZncZw/img_9692_izhoshtreno.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmWewLRomeArWABMsjvaVyoEFwqBZACZuV1TAZLzPZncZw/img_9692_izhoshtreno.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) ... on the way back to the car ... ... and then, we continued the journey ... ... directed towards the south of the peninsula. Towards Medulin, our hometown. <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmXopDdEJvSNXQxhNrVzGKVWn7bDws8qyaKcj5qLo3rGwH/img_9748_izhoshtreno.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmXopDdEJvSNXQxhNrVzGKVWn7bDws8qyaKcj5qLo3rGwH/img_9748_izhoshtreno.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) A little less than a kilometer from Vodnjan, we stopped by the side of the road ... ... to buy fresh strawberries ... ... on the small traveling fruits & vegetables stand. A bus with a trailer was parked nearby. A group of tourists came out of the bus, and then ... <a href="https://images.ecency.com/DQmTpkY6L2CpWkb5aDdduFXz7veaXDdJZY4D4K9KrxVQdyS/img_9746_izhoshtreno.jpg"><img src="https://images.ecency.com/DQmTpkY6L2CpWkb5aDdduFXz7veaXDdJZY4D4K9KrxVQdyS/img_9746_izhoshtreno.jpg"></a> (Enlargeable) ... those tourists brought the bicycles out of the trailer. After buying the fruits, it was time to go home. There was one short stop, a kilometer further, near the Vodnjan's center. It was train time. The barrier ramp came down, and we had to wait a bit. The following links will take you to the sites with more information about some of the insects shown in the post. I found some stuff about them there. https://www.kerbtier.de/cgi-bin/enFOverview.cgi https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adonis_blue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanasimus_formicarius https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutilla AND THAT'S IT. AS ALWAYS IN THESE POSTS ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK - THE END.
