It sounds trivial but when you do not change your lifestyle, your circumstances do not magically change.  When you run face to face into discontentment, frustration, irritation...maybe at work, within a relationship, within your dolla dolla bills - what do you do. Unfortunately, I find that most of us tell a few friends, think about it, feel sad for ourselves then check out into our medication...netflix, alcohol, napping, anti-depressants, __________ (fill in the blank). Most people really do want to change, we have just been indoctrinated into a state of easy apathy and distraction. ______________________ # Teach Yourself to be a Champion # I have recently been challenged by one of my mentors to embrace this mindset to usher in a bit of breakthrough currently needed in my life. At work, I have taken on a significant upgrade in my responsibilities while not dropping any of my other responsibilities. The result is some moments of feeling overwhelmed, a tendency to telling myself that I am tired, and that I need people to help me. In reality I need to teach my self the next step of breakthrough in my life is to increase my champion status.  If you are in this boat with me do me a favor and try this. Step 1. Begin calling yourself a Champion. Initially you will feel a little trite and awkward (you will need to get over that) - as you begin doing that - you may find yourself wanting to flex...go fer it. Step 2. Begin informing the things that are in need of breakthrough that you are a champion. For me right now it's at work. I step into my office and inform it that I am a champion. I look at my computer when I open it and let it know that I am a champion. This may look like when you pull out your checkbook to pay bills, or maybe when you are going to meet up with that caustic relationship. As you step in to these places inform yourself that a champion is showing up to engage. I would recommend doing it outloud (initially your co-workers may mock you, however it will actually create and atmosphere that call's not only yourself but also those around you to champion status). Step 3. Tell your medications they are not worthy of this Champion. If you get to this point you are winning because you are starting to change your mindset. This is where your medications/distractions are going to start pulling you back. This is where we boldly let our distractors know that we are champions. You see resisting the snooze button is easier when I put my feet on the floor stare at the alarm and let it know its not worthy of a champion. Flushing pills and emptying my alcohol bottles is easier when I let those things know they have no influence over a champion. Step 4. Enjoy your upgrade _____________________ Go get your next breakthrough. Idleness and apathy are not your friend.
