Ya comenzamos la Semana Santa como tal, este Domingo de Ramos; y esto me pone a pensar, como nos cambia de contexto estos días, según nuestras experiencias, vivencias y creencias, pero por sobre todo como con el paso de los años, vamos viendo algunas costumbres, de forma diferente y entre ellas entra esta. Cuando era niña, recuerdo mis semanas santas de manera muy tradicional. Mi abuela se destacaba en la cocina, con sus comidas a base de pescado, sus dulces, en especial el majarete de coco.

Entre otras cosas, también guardaba esos días con total devoción, no era de las que vivía en la iglesia, por esos días, pero en casa hacíamos nuestras oraciones en familia. Ella no permitía desde el Miércoles Santo, cocinar, lavar ni hacer ningún otro oficio doméstico, todo se preparaba desde mucho antes, para no tener que hacer nada durante esos días, hasta el Domingo de Resurrección y otra cosa que recuerdo, durante esos días, era que no se permitían ningún tipo de discusión, ni peleas, y mucho menos decir alguna palabra altisonante, groserías...

Entonces para esos días, los niños hacíamos más travesuras, porque ninguno iba a ser castigado por esos días, ja, ja, ja. Pero personalmente, era temerosa de las advertencias de mi abuela, que también aprovechaba para contarnos algunas de sus historias aterradoras, de  Semana Santa,  que según pasaban en su infancia a  los que rompían algunas reglas, como no respetar los días santos, diciendo groserías, peleando, teniendo relaciones sexuales, trabajando, al trasnochar por las calles,  faltar el respeto a los padres, entre otras reglas y costumbres, que en mi familia se guardaban.

Luego que fui creciendo, ya con mis padres la historia fue otra. Mis padres seguían con las costumbres de las comidas y dulces, mi  madre acostumbraba a ir a la procesión del Nazareno que en mi país es el día miércoles, con la visita de los 7 templos que es los viernes; por su parte mi padre acostumbraba junto a  los vecinos elaborar a Judas, que es un muñeco que elaboraban con ropas que rellenaban hasta darle forma de una persona, aparte mi padre grababa en aquel tiempo un casete donde "Judas" dejaba su "testamento" a viva voz, que generalmente eran chistes entre vecinos acerca de lo que este les dejaba.

Era muy divertido  todo aquello, que toda la comunidad se agrupaba para oír, todo esto antes de la quema de aquel Judas de trapo. Mientras, los hombres jugaban con cocos, que era un juego que consistía en romper el coco del contrincante con un golpe certero y ganaba el que lograba romper el coco del adversario. Esos son mis recuerdos de mi niñez y adolescencia. Ya de adulta, con mi propia familia, mantuve lo de las comidas a  base de pescado, por lo menos los jueves y Viernes Santo en los primeros años de matrimonio; también seguí respetando lo de cero discusiones, groserías, no andar de noche fuera de casa, visitaba algunos de estos días las iglesias.

Ahora, en el presente, prefiero quedarme en casa durante estos días, no visito las iglesias, mas si me reúno para oír la palabra de Dios, para orar en comunidad. Con lo de la comida, trato de meter algo de pescado en la dieta de ser posible jueves y viernes, y lo que si mantengo es mi respeto por estos dias y así se lo transmito a mis hijos; siempre les recuerdo que deben respetar estas creencias que ya les he descrito  y estas previsiones, pues por algo estas creencias han  pasado de generación en generación por lo menos en mi familia.

We have already started the Holy Week as such, this Palm Sunday; and this makes me think, how these days change our context, according to our experiences, experiences and beliefs, but above all as over the years, we see some customs, differently and among them enters this one. When I was a child, I remember my Holy Weeks in a very traditional way. My grandmother excelled in the kitchen, with her fish-based meals, her sweets, especially the majarete de coco.

Among other things, she also kept those days with total devotion, she was not one of those who lived in the church, for those days, but at home we did our prayers as a family. She did not allow from Holy Wednesday, cooking, washing or any other household chores, everything was prepared long before, not to have to do anything during those days, until Easter Sunday and another thing I remember, during those days, was that no arguments were allowed, no fights, and much less say any high-flown words, rudeness ....

So for those days, we kids did more mischief, because none of us were going to be punished for those days, ha, ha, ha, ha. But personally, I was afraid of my grandmother's warnings, who also took the opportunity to tell us some of her terrifying stories of Holy Week, which she said happened in her childhood to those who broke some rules, such as not respecting the holy days, swearing, fighting, having sex, working, staying up late in the streets, disrespecting parents, among other rules and customs, which were kept in my family.


After I grew up, with my parents, it was a different story. My parents continued with the customs of food and sweets, my mother used to go to the procession of the Nazarene, which in my country is on Wednesday, with the visit of the 7 temples on Fridays; My father used to make Judas, which is a doll that was made with clothes that were stuffed to give it the shape of a person, besides my father used to record a cassette at that time where “Judas” left his “testament” loudly, which were usually jokes among neighbors about what he left them.

It was very funny all that, that the whole community would gather to listen, all this before the burning of that rag Judas. Meanwhile, the men played with coconuts, which was a game that consisted of breaking the opponent's coconut with an accurate blow and the winner was the one who managed to break the opponent's coconut. Those are my memories of my childhood and adolescence. As an adult, with my own family, I kept the fish-based meals, at least on Thursdays and Good Friday in the first years of marriage; I also continued to respect the zero arguments, rudeness, not to be out of the house at night, I visited churches some of these days.

Now, at present, I prefer to stay at home during these days, I do not visit the churches, but I do gather to hear the word of God, to pray in community. With regard to food, I try to put some fish in my diet if possible on Thursday and Friday, and what I do maintain is my respect for these days and I pass it on to my children; I always remind them that they should respect these beliefs that I have already described and these provisions, because for something these beliefs have passed from generation to generation, at least in my family.
