Even if it wasn’t new, probably secondhand or so, you were buying something you didn’t previously have. Have you noticed that almost everyone who sees the new things you bought tends to ask for the price? I have always marveled at this fact. Like, why are we so interested in the price of goods others buy? When we see new clothes on the body of a friend, we ask how much they bought them. We see new phones, we suddenly feel the urge to know the price. The same happens with buying new laptops and even cars. We just want to know the price. Why? Could it be that we are just genuinely interested in the price so that we would know how much to budget when we want to buy the same property? Is this a mechanism to know if this is something to pursue or just give up because it is beyond the bracket of what we can afford? When we know the price of the car Mr. A bought, we decide there and then that the car is too expensive for us and get our minds off it. But then, the shoes he’s wearing… that is more affordable. Or maybe am I looking at all this the wrong way? What if we are only doing this for a darker reason we do not want to admit? Like how we only do it to have an idea of the size of the person’s wallet and know what they are capable of financially. To know if they are still beneath us on the financial scale or if they have managed to scale up to our level, or even higher. After all, just by the amount people spend, you can guess how financially buoyant they are. [August De Richeelieu](https://www.pexels.com/photo/young-man-in-denim-long-sleeve-polo-shirt-holding-shopping-bags-on-a-table-7621012/) The truth is, we would never really know. Everyone is guilty of this, even I myself. Once I see you rocking something new, I would want to know how much you spent on it. Probably to place a value on it, one that would have nothing to do with my assumption. Because whether we admit it or not, these things help shape the way we view others in our lives. When we see people spending more on certain things, we adjust our mindset towards them. The way we would consider people who only buy cheap things will be very different from the way we view people who buy only expensive things. It will also be different from the way we view people who are hybrid, buying both expensive and cheap things when it suits them. Everyone spends according to their financial capability, and it should not be an issue when looking at who they are. But this is real life, we use the most mundane things to rate our fellow humans. Like how much you spent on your house, or how much you used to buy your toothbrush. Sadly though, this is one thing I don’t think will be going away anytime soon because over time it has proven to become something that is fast becoming a tradition. Many people have learned how to deal with this human trait. When people ask them for the price of stuff they bought, they either inflate it or reduce the price. Not giving them the actual thing. Most just increase the price, so that if the person is budgeting they will plan above the price. But if the person is only doing it to know how fat their bank account is, they will have an exaggerated version in their heads, different from what’s in reality. It has been working for so many people already. We are humans, we learn every day. I look forward to what other knowledge tomorrow has in store for us. [S Migaj](https://www.pexels.com/photo/silhouette-photography-of-person-standing-on-green-grass-in-front-of-mountains-during-golden-hour-746386/) *** <br> <center>Thank you for reading.
