[Pixabay](https://www.pexels.com/photo/toddler-wearing-head-scarf-in-bed-265987/) *** <br> Babies are one of the best things to ever happen to humanity, they are beautiful and loved by everyone. It is difficult to look upon a baby and not smile or feel happy, even if the baby is not yours or you have no sort of connection to it at all. I know some people that go absolutely crazy when they see babies, their bodies would just itching them to carry the little bundles of joy and rock them. I guess this unconditional love towards babies is because of one thing, babies are pure. They know nothing and all they want is love and to be happy. And then, the fact that they are so vulnerable makes everyone want to take care of them and make them happy. For the first five years of my life, I was the last born in my family and I enjoyed the privileges of all that. Until my parents had my baby sister, and then I knew what it was to become a big brother. I really have much memory of those days, but I can still remember how my sister was during her first days on earth. She was so fair, she could be called Snow White. Her skin shone as if there was a light bulb somewhere inside her that never went off, she was always quiet and quick to laugh. At least that is how I remember it, I don’t really remember her crying much. [Victoria Akvarel](https://www.pexels.com/photo/baby-on-fur-rug-1648375/) The day she took her first steps, I was privileged to witness it. And for some reason, I still remember this day clearly even though it was so long ago. It was just myself, my siblings, and our baby sister at home, our parents had gone out and to keep her occupied, my eldest sister was playing with her. But you know how tiring babies can be, it gets to the point where you would want to stop so they can sleep, but it would seem as if there is one power bank somewhere that keeps them amped up and always on the go. That was how it was that day. By this time she was already a fast crawler and was always all over the room, tiring indeed. When my eldest sister got tired of playing with her, she kept her on the floor to continue playing while she was gisting with my other siblings. If you’ve been around babies, you’ve probably seen when they play a little too much and hit their heads against the wall or the floor by mistake. Not hard, but kinda subtle, then they would look around to see if anyone noticed. If they see the adults fuzzing around worried, they’ll begin to cry, but if everyone is still doing what they were doing, then they would continue their play. Such smartasses. Sometimes you’ll see a child fall and the mother will tell you to pretend you didn’t see it, even though she has the side of her eye securely planted on the child. After a few seconds, the child will get back up and continue to play. But once they noticed someone saw them fall, they would begin to cry at once. Well, that was what was supposed to happen that day. [Pixabay](https://www.pexels.com/photo/toddler-sitting-while-smiling-459953/) Everyone was talking and suddenly we heard the *koi* and at once the room went silent. My baby sister had fallen. She had been sitting and playing with her toys, then somehow fell backward. It was as if we all froze up as we pretended not to see her. Then, she rolled onto her belly and got on all fours as she looked at us. Then she began to laugh. It was as if she caught us pretending we didn’t see her trying to trick us. And as she laughed, we joined her too. That was when my sister beckoned on her to come. Just a simple calling as usual. And my baby sister stood up and walked all the way to my eldest sister! All of us were shocked, no one had expected it. We were all excited to see her walk and tried to get her to do it again, but for the rest of that day, she didn’t walk. She finally knew something she could use to play with us. But still, even she couldn’t hold back her growth. The next time she walked was two days later (I think), and this time it was my Mom who witnessed it. And soon after, she crawled and walked interchangeably until she started walking fully. My baby sister and I have always been together, we only started staying apart when I had to go to school and for a while, I wondered how it would be. There was a time it was just us both and our parents in the house. When our other siblings had gone to higher institutions and boarding schools, it was just us. We’ve always been there for each other and we’ve always been a team. And that is something that would never change. I’m happy to be her big brother. [Olajide Joy Samuel](https://www.pexels.com/photo/baby-lying-on-brown-cushion-1586558/) I have two nieces but due to my location, I was unable to witness their early months. But then, I’ve decided that when God blesses my family with a new baby, I would be more present. There is nothing sweeter than flexing your “Rich Uncle” muscles for the children of your siblings. I don’t know about you, but in the eyes of children, uncles are always richer, even if they don’t have *shi shi* in their bank account. This is because it’s the uncle buys them a lot of sweets and biscuits. But don’t worry… I’ll be *that* Rich Uncle soon. It’s only a matter of time. And as for my baby sister, she’s not a baby anymore. Well, duh… She’s now a student at the university. Still as beautiful as ever and we’re still as close as ever. And she’s my number one fan when it comes to my books. A fan I would never use to play. [Pixabay](https://www.pexels.com/photo/man-person-cute-young-2133/) *** <br> <center>Thank you for reading.
