Welcome to the month of March. I recently ran into a [site](https://www.denverpost.com/2018/02/28/photos-today-in-history-march-1/ ) that syndicates historical pictures with the current day’s date. The follow 5 are my selection for the start of the new Month. They are listed in chronological order

**Flight test -March 1, 1926**

This was a non-stop flight with the purpose to test instruments in fog and flying above the clouds. The U.S. Army regulation DH4-B3 plane was piloted by Lt. Lyman P. Whitten and Bradley Jones. It  flew from Dayton, Ohio to Boston, Massachusetts in record time of five hours and fifty minutes. Total distance was 725 miles.

America's latest electric two-seater -The Auto Red Bug(microcar), is being driven through the streets of London. I wonder what kind of Horsepower it was packing.

The picture shows camera shy Mae Capone, wife of gangster Al Capone. She is seen on her way to visit Capone at the hospital on Alcatraz Island. Al Capone was currently doing time in prison and suffering from a mental illness brought on by syphilis.

**Motorcycle speed record- March 1, 1949**

On this first day of march, Italian motorcyclist Raffaele Alberti, made a successful attempt at the world motorcycle speed record. The location was the road between Charrat and Saxon in Switzerland. The bike looked a bit advanced for that period, if you ask  me.

Wife of Pres. John F. Kennedy, Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy, perches on camel with her sister, Princess Lee Radziwill in Karachi, Pakistan. Mrs. Kennedy was on a goodwill visit to India and Pakistan
